my brother made this in the early 70's and when he passed away, i was given the remains of this plane...i want to rebuild it and make it like it was --

my problem is that i need another kit to do this, and i dont know what make and model it is..even plans would be great..is there anyone that knows what this plane is? i could start searching then..

the reamining peices do not include most of the fuse or wings, so copying the parts isnt going to work.

i have a lot of building and some scratch building experience..

thanks if you can help me here..

Tim

Tim,

Looks like a control line (U control) stunt model to me so you may have more luck posting on a forum for this type of model. Most of the guys here would be more into R/C.

Yup, RFJ is correct. It's definitely a contol line model. I think it's a Top Flite Nobler which is still available as an ARF, and you could probably even find a kit http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXDUM0&P=RF

Post your question here:

Good luck,

it is not a nobler iI need a sise view but it is either the topflite hurricane stunter with pre formed balsa fuselage skins or the p40 warhawk of the same series.uses a .35 size engine and 60 foot lines.with the tapered wig I am leaning towards the p-40.I built the hurrican stunter about 1969.nice flying plane with a mcoy .35

Thanks Aero!

--i really appreciate it..if i could find the p-40 version i think its that one--but i am considering getting the hurricane because they may be almost the same model--or is that right?

i have never been so close as i am now to getting this thanks to you guys..

i have another pic of some parts and now it looks like its definitely not the nobler --because i found one on ebay, and see it has a 1 peice landing gear,,mine has individual legs --the kit on ebay that i am picturing is from the 60's

i am attaching a pic of some of the parts--the spinner says vecco--the motor mccoy 29--the tank and tires "perfect"

The Hurricane from Ebay is on the way now. Hopefully this will be very close to the P-40 stand off scale and i can make it as the replacement.

The McCoy 29 motor and other accessories will be very handy to complete the project with. Im not sure how good of shape the McCoy is in, because its never been run in 40 + years..but i dont see any corrosion and it seems to be very clean.

The prop spinner and tank look good too, along with the tires--i think that when i see the landing gear on this kit--that it will tell a lot especially if it is pre bent.

What kind of dope did most people use back then? the covering was fairly thin silk (looks like).

I have always used shrinkable materials to cover planes with--so using dope will be new to me, but im not worried about being able to do it as ive covered many planes..and am certainly willing to learn
