Thanks guys for all the helpful info. I re-read every page in this thread and took some notes on the mods that were done to the Falcon. I will try and put them on one page and post it.

I await with great interest.
About to start one with a Wren 54.

Thanks Mike and Xairyflier.
I gently roughed up the original film covering with scotchbrite and then painted with Flair Spektrum paints. It looks ok from 3 metres distant!!

Dear Bro's

On assembly I note that my Hitec 5645's protrude quite a bit from the surface of the structure. Has anybody tried recessing the flight control servos in the structure of the Falcon 120? A picture would help. Thanks all

Just completed my 5th flight on my Falcon with Jetcat P60. Fly's great but have a bit of a puzzle. Take- run is normal except that at rotation it does and shoots up at a 45deg angle much to my surprise. My wing incedence with the ground is -3/4deg.. Could this be the problem?????

Landings are a real pleasure. Had to put in 5 clicks of right aileron all else as set-up in shop. Mixed in 3/32 down on elevator at flap time. That much gives me lots of airspeed as I cut the throttle (10%) turning final. On flight #3 I did sharp turn at low throttle at altitude and it did a QUICK snap. I am balanced at the 13" mark. So keep up the air speed on turning final.

My ailerons were out of alignment with the trailing edges of the wing. These can corrected by heating with iron and reverse twisting until cool. Basically twist until it aligns and iron out the wrinkles.

Appreciate some thoughts on take-off situation.

Dave

Hi Dave, you hit the nail on head. Better off with the nose sitting slightly high on the ground not pointing down. There is no propwash so elevator is ineffective until near take off speed is attained. By then you are hauling the nose up, just as the elevator gets some bite. With nose slightly high, she rotates silky smooth almost on her own. Cheers tim

Hi guys
What would be the biggest manufactured tank that will fit in the Falcon?
Will be using Kingtech K80 so will want to get as much fuel on board as I can
Thanks
George

This one is sort of manufactured, has never leaked, holds 3 litres if you include header, and the price is right!

M0f0,

The easy way is to space the servos out a bit so that they don't protrude all the way through the booms. See photo. Others have made servo pockets to mount the servos sideways into the boom.

Dave,

Adding a bit of flaps for take off will help. It's best to have 1 -2 degrees of positive wing incidence for smooth take offs. In that case flaps are not needed.

Joe

Joe- will try the flaps approach next. If then ok will use that as routine.

If not will try slightly larger nose-wheel to get positive ground angle. Larger nose wheel with retracts poses a problem as I am maxed out on wheel size(2 1/4").

Is the snap roll normal at the top of a tight loop ????? Also a snap roll at sharp slow speed turn ????

Perhaps I should re-balance with more fore-ward CG???

Still sorting it out but enjoyable so far. I'm fortunate to fly at an airport in N. E. Michigan with 4500' concrete run-way.

Thanks for suggestion.

Dave

Hello Aussie1
I am trying to assemble a juice bottle like yours, I have the festo fittings for the lid and breather/overflow. How did you seal the lid on the bottle as the thread is not very good thanks

Hi dave, ref the nose high attitude. If you make your nose leg longer, the wheel probably will foul the plywood radio gear plate just rear of the nose gear bay. If you cant get a larger wheel on, then simply put a spacer under the retract mount. This way you can still use your existing set up and the wheel will stow away. admittedly the leg will be slightly protruding when fully retracted, but make no difference.
I used all the gears from my first falcon, and found when i fitted them to the later falcon, the nose was not high enough for good take off, design must be slightly different. I fitted large spacers under the nose, about 12mm and gives me beautifull effortless takeoffs and no hacking the plane to bits. On the front of the spacer area, why not fit an ultra brite LED FLYING light, stays on all time, really good for orientaionon dull days.

Cheers Tim

Tim- I like your spacer idea!!!!! Why didn't I think of that??? Been working on my seaplane fleet since my last Falcon flight(#5) so no progress on Falcon. Have a seaplane meet this week-end in southern Michigan. Usually get about 80 pilots to this one: great fun. Will try larger nose wheel next week before moving gear.

Thanks for suggestion.

Dennis,
A lot of people have been using Seal-All, automotive Goop or RTV.

I have a question about servos for the Elevator and Ailerons. In my 30% planes I usually use DS8611 or DS8711s. For these MUCH smaller surfaces this seems like total overkill (not to mention expense). I understand that some are using HS-225MGs which are micros, not quite 5Kg and Analog (seem a little light). I realize this is a <$200 aircraft but I would hate to loose a $2600 turbine because of a $25 servo. What are some of you others using?

-Michael
