The eflite 120 size electric retracts work well in the falcon.

On the NavyCat the Elevator and rudder were also white so I recovered the rudders and turned the elevator upside down.
Bottom of tailplane was going to be all covered in alum tape so the white was going to be covered anyway.

The kit came with a nice set of 8 carbon horns, which I added my own carbon tube covered rod and ball links for the rudders.

I used 2 horns on each aileron and 2 on the elevator with a ball link in between, I like this method as it gives a nice secure linkage.

I needed two more horns for the flaps, so cut them out on my CNC from some 2.4mm epoxy glass board and fitted them back to front to maximise the movement of the flaps.

Wait for DG who will tell you that one horn ought to have been glass and one carbon to give a much better fatigue resistance.

Did you ever see these: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_7203928/tm.htm I cut them for my 3/2.5M petrol Edge/Extra and it just got out of hand after that and I use them on everthing now.

Full size Bleriot?

Have to be careful how I word this "nice horns there mike"

Bleriot is 1/2 scale but being built to the fullsize drawings, been at it a few years, but working at it as much as I can this year between other builds, nearly everything is hand made so does take time, I have a build thread on RCGroups but need to update it as I have a lot more done than shown. (bit like this navycat)

We all know about the poor glueing of the falcon/tornado formers etc and the Navycat is no different as can be seen from the pics any glue there was minimal and the Chinese flour and water mix is not very strong, I find the best method is to just snap them out if you can and glue back in with hysol.

The nosewheel formers needed a lot of extra glue and the nosewheel blocks themselves were just a hard balsa!! Luckily due to the poor glueing I was easily able to remove them and slide them out the square holes and replaced them with some nice hardwood blocks, as you can see from the pic there was'nt much glue holding them!

Main gear mounts was multiple layers of ply which is better than the blocks fitted to the Falcon I built before, again needed some extra glue and I also ran some Aliphatic resin down any joints in the wing I could get at, but as the NavCat wing is fully sheeted it is a lot stronger anyway.

I had planned fitting eflite electric retracts, but Dave at Colchester convinced me that they had a set of air up/spring down retracts that were ideal and great value for money, and have to say he was spot on.

These are probably the best value for money model item I have bought in a long time, the retract units are very well made, with much thicker than expected frames and to my surprise, dont leak! the system will easily hold air for a couple of days and take so little air to make them work.

The kit came with the operating valve, inline adjustable restrictor to (slow them down) a festo branded pressure gauge, filling port, more T's than you need, plus the pipes and tank, and even the closed loop wire and clevis's for the steering. all for £70stg.

I made a trailing link leg for the nosewheel, this time using a twin spring system and modified the steering to use a pushrod from a servo rather than "two bits of string" method I am not keen on.
I intend to make some trailing links for the mains but for now just wound my own centre coiled 5mm wire legs.

Clicked on your nose leg pic and got carried away looking at the Bleriot drg and forgot to look at the leg, and had to open the pic again. Those retracts sure do look good value, may have to get a set myself.

The kit did come with some hardwood blocks to fit a turbine, but again were covered white? and I thought just too big so I folded up a set of brackets from 2mm alloy as done previously for the falcon and had to a paint them black as I could not get a match for the yellow as it is not any of the normal oracover/flair/solarlac shades.

The NavyCat was supplied with a nice 2.1L square fuel tank, which just slots in easily. Fittings were pre installed but needed a few mods to make them seal properly especially the ones on the top.
The vent fittings were very small, and there was two of them, maybe the intention was one was for filling, but the hole in the brass nipple was only about 1mm, so I tee'd them both together and used as a single vent into my now standard for all models 3oz vent tank.

Was not happy with wing tube fit at the fuselage so I made up two new bearing plates from 1/4" ply and glued them with hysol to the sides of the fuselage.

Canopy/cockpit floor was done using the same method as I have detailed before for the falcon.

I added another equipment tray over the original one which gave more room and allowed easy wire/pipe routing underneath, and also provided a floor for the nosewheel bay. Lower tray housed the RX battery, steering servo and retract valve. (forgot to take a pic).

I Don’t like leaving lipo’s in a model so I folded up a square (rectangle) box from light gauge alum, which I can slide the battery into from the nosewheel bay, and then remove when back in the workshop.

I am pleased with the finished model, the modified yellow/blue is a good scheme and easy to see in the air. The painted fuselage is not same shade of yellow as the wings so to break the join line I added in a blue strip, so it is not as noticeable. Then to finish the model I added some stars, text and logos to brighten it up.

The NavyCat now has 9 flights, fly’s fantastic and very fast, the retracts are working flawless, next plan will be to make some trailing links for the mains and some doors for nosewheel bay to tidy it up and keep the air out.

Weight is 15lb 1oz dry, CG was about 320mm but it is a little nose heavy going by inverted flight so going to move my RX pack back a bit.

First flight I landed without flaps as it was pitching up too much when I put them down, subsequent flights I have been playing with flap deflection, down elevator and Aileron reflex, at the moment they are set as below, and it lands nice and slow, will probably play with them a bit more in the next few flights especially increasing the aileron reflex. (crow)

Also found on the first couple of flights I needed a lot more elevator on landing than I expected, might have to do with the flaps blanking the tail.

Present settings are:
Full Flaps is 38deg measured from bottom of wing (approx 65mm down travel)
8mm down Elevator, with the Ailerons 8mm up.

Throws:
Ailerons 18mm up 16mm down
Elevator 30mm up 20mm down
Rudders about 25mm each way.

I noticed with the full flaps rather than the split flaps on the falcon there is less support for the boom is this ok
I have a falcon 120 and use 6v sub c pack for rx I had to keep ecu battery and rx pack as far back in the fuz as possible,
What rx packs are you using.
Wren S/sport on the back.

Yes I did think about that to at the start, but it is not really providing any support when you think about it, different if it was bolted near the trailing edge, but the attachment points are the same.

yes I am using a 4 cell sub C RX pack, your batteries do seem to be far back, the Falcon 120 I built before with a wren 54 had both batteries at the nosewheel.

What is the C.G. measurement for the Falcon 120. Does anyone have a site to download a manual.

Made some trailing link legs for the main gear to replace the wire legs.

I wanted them to be in a straight line when unloaded so they fitted the wheel wells without having to hack into the wing to give clearance like some of the commercial legs.
Took a bit of head scratching but eventually with an offset upper spring attachment I managed to get the geometry right.
They are very simple to make from from 10mm alum rod, now I have it figured out!

Had four flights with them yesterday and they work really well, spring tension seems just right.
Wheels shown were a temp fit, have new slightly larger ones coming with a harder tyre, these just about got through yesterdays flying!

Xairflyer,
I like the trailing link legs!
A very cunning way of keeping the wheels in a line, and not a lot of difficult machining.
What retract units are you using BTW??
