Hi all,

I am just completing a rebuild of my PST600R powered Falcon 120 with some updated hardware and electronics.

I realize that the COG is 13 inches back from the leading edge.

However I can't remember if the COG should be checked with the plane upside down or upright ?

Also should the UAT be full of fuel while checking the COG ?

Appreciate any advice.

Thanks.

its a low wing aeroplane therefore check C of G upside down, easier to ballance, UAT full.

hi

I appreciate the discussion about one or two servos on elevator. Last summer i had an elevator servo failure on a boomerang at 50'th anniversary fun fly of the club. It has been déclared the best crash of the last 50 last years. (less than 1 hour on a vt80) With the best of my analysis, i conclued 95% more probability that the elevator extension pin went out from the receiver, It probably happened after a minor repair where the plate under the receiver has been unscrued and twisted may times. After the crash i tested severely the serve, wire and extension (joined with heat shrink) without being eable to see an anormal functionning. the data logger of the turbine stated that power was cut to idle 4 seconds before current cut. when i lost te elevator, i was about 300ft high ans a did bring the trottle to idle and observed the show... I can concluded that the crash in not due to RX batterie or receiver failiure.

i just received the tornado v3 yesterday ans i have another bomerang 90% completed. i use two TORK 9080 (helical gear BL HV) on the elevator with two different extension and two different receiver channel without cutting the elevator. This servo is the one i know with the less mechanical resistance when not powered (close to the futaba s9254 who has much less torque), so when i cut the current on one of the servo, i dont see any difference in movement speed or reasonable torque. I use those servo because i had them in stock, my second choice would had been for the alignds610 or ds620, Those servos keeps many thousands of helicopter in the air without known problems with great performance and stability. those servo are easy to find ay $40 max $50 from heli owners who after a crash prefer buying a full kit and resell electronics than buying peices, (align parts are expensives and heli kit at ridiculus price). or from a local heli hobby shop who splits the kits. They can be compared to over $100 servos from JR or Futaba. Those servos also very easy to rotate when not powered.

On the boomerang, the servos are very close so i intend to slot just a bit of servo horn to avoid servo interference, so one will act as main servo and second one as backup.

I will do tests on Tornado but i dont expect to split the elevator and will use 2 servos align DS510 (1 have in stock) will probably be used.

best regards

Jack

Let me know which ones you want, I have them all out of a Falcon 120 as I replaced the complete structure.

Hi Jack, many thanks for your update on the sad loss of your Boomerang and your proposed measures to combat a similar failing. It is interesting to note, that I have never seen duplicate servo inputs on a heli, I fly helis with CCPM and it never crossed my mind about redundancy in these systems, cheers tim

Sorry for the delay, have been unavoidably preoccupied on other things, do you still need the details of the formers?

Anybody else having trouble fitting wings to fusse? It's like the wing tube does not line up. Any ideas on possible fix would be appreciated.

I have thought of tweaking the wing tube to fit. Tearing the wing tube out and re-aligning it. Making filler to fit between wing and fusse.

They lack 1/2 to 3/4 inch of meeting fusse at trailing edge.

Also if anyone has an extra set of tubs I need some.

hi xairflyer
you are spot on. if the spars don't line up do this. make the holes bigger
then bolt the wings to the fuse. make sure everything lines up then glue in
the new blocks. it's what we have been doing in oz. works great.

What Ken said. This allows you make sure both wings are lined up perfect and only takes a few minutes to do and it also adds some strength to the side fuse where the spar is as well. This is a pick of mine before the hysol was added.

I wonder why this happens on some and not on others, the fus must come out of different moulds to be this far out, or would it be different wing jigs perhaps?
