Hi,

I had asked a question but never got an answer. What do you ahve to do to assemble/disassemble at the field? The smaller one is hard to take a aprt so I am just wondering if it is easier with the big one.

I asked that same question a while back. The short answer is it's a pain with assembly/disassembly and all of the servo/air comnnections. Some guys leave the booms attached to the wings. I'm going to try keeping the booms & stab assembled and then attach them after the wings are on. It would be a whole lot easier if it were designed like the BVM Bobcat, where just the wing panels outboard of the booms need to come off.

Thanks! yeah I would think itys easiest to leave the booms on the wings and unscrew one side of the stab and slide the wings off.

Perhaps. My reservation is that the wing/boom assemblies will be awkward to handle and transport. I made a support out of styrofoam to keep the front of the booms evenly spaced during transportation and assembly. I'll probably try both ways to see which works out best for me. Mine should be ready to maiden in a few days, weather permitting.

I CAN'T BELIEVE IT !!!

I tried to see if I could get my assembled Falcon into the back of my Ford Expedition, and it fits.
With the back seats folded down and the plane angled just right I got it in. That will make life easier. Now I have to find room in the basement to store it with the wings and booms on.

Thats awesome! Yoi're lucky. Can you do me a favor? Could you please measure the distance from the back of the turbine to the tip of the nose. i want to see if it will fit in my truck with the wings on and booms off.

Brian,

From the nose to the end of the turbine tailcone is 54.5 in. The wing tips, however, extend a bit further back. From the nose straight back to even with the wing tips is 57 in. If you have a full sized truck it would probably fit in if angled.

I'm still working on the canopy attachment, otherwise mine is ready to go. The weather forcast isn't that good for tomorrow, maybe I'll be able to maiden it Sunday. Even if I'm not done I can always tape the canopy on for the first flights.

Here is how I have it set up:

CG - 330 mm. or 13 inches
Aileron - Aileron +/- 22 mm. high; +/- 18 mm. low
Flap - partial 25 mm.; full 80 mm. (about 40 degrees)
Rudder - +/- 15 mm. high; +/- 12 mm. low
Elevator - +/- 20 mm. high; +/- 15 mm. low

This is a lovely lookig jet and an excellent first jet trainer. I have had 5 flights on mine now with the Wren 54 and it flys a dream. I kwwp the booms on the wings and remove the wings takes about 15 mins to put together at the field

Did anybody fly this jet with a turbine and the original fixed gears? I wouldnt like to put retracts but im afraid that the wings doesnt support the fixed gears during the lanfings. It seems to be not strong.

This wing is very strong all you have to do is apply some 30 min epoxy around the gear mounting blocks and it is fine. With flaps deployed this plane will land very slow and gentle

I finally saw one of these in person. Me likey lotty.....really want one. The owner was using a os 120 ax for power. It did not fly (retract problem) but the thrust from the 12o seems adequate. I have a ys 140 just laying around, may have to get one of these and wait for the turbine.

It seems to be well built, with one exception.....the booms. These things scare me. They attach to the top of the wing with plastic screws...not good. There is another guy with the .50 sized falcon (os 46) and he broke one of the plastic screws in flight. I really doubt they will hold up to my style of flying, yet alone a turbine... Looking at some of the videos out there I am surprised none of your elevators have separated in flight...

So, is this a legitimate concern?? or is it much ado about nothing?? I would like to hear what others think about it. How do u secure those booms???

Within this thread there have been many precautionary mods to the original kit.
The upgrading of wing bolts has been addressed by most builders, including myself, and we have already swapped these out for steel bolts.

Im planning on using OS 160 in the 1st instance and just waiting for some flight reports from others with this motor.

So guys, any OS 160 flight reports yet???

Just got back from doing the maiden flight on my Falcon 120. Once I got it trimmed out it was very easy to fly. I ended up using low rates for both ailerons and elevator. It definitely needs more than 25 mm. flaps because it floated quite a ways on landings.

The second flight went better since it was pretty well dialed in. It's very stable and flys like a trainer. Top speed with my Artes Bee (12# thrust) was about 120 mph and it had a decent climb rate. But it's still a little slow for me. 14# thrust would be ideal.

Overall I am pleased with the plane.

The engine mount works fine. I had confidence in it since I made a similar one for my Turbine Enforcer and it has held up for over 180 flights so far.

As I said in my 11/20 post, I thought it was a bit slow with the Artes Bee. So I installed my brand new Wren SS and flew it today. Since I wasn't sure how strong the airframe is I dialed it down to 14# thrust. What a difference! Top speed is maybe 150 mph. I'll have to get use to the plane before dialing in any more thrust. I think the full 18 lbs. might be too much for it.

It was cold and overcast out so I put on only one flight. It's snowing this evening and the weather forcast looks crappy for the next week. Looks like flying season is over. Probably won't get another chance to fly it before April.

For those that are interested here's a couple of shots of how I did the canopy. It seems to work well, easy on and easy off.

I was speaking to the British importer of these at the trade show in Harrogate this weekend and he advises that they are bringing out a much strenghened version of this bird specifically for turbines! I asked while they were strengthening it, whether they were going to alter the boom design, and he didnt think so. No knowledge of a bigger version though.

Anybody flown with OS 160 yet??
