I am trying to use the Tower .46 muffler with the OS .55.

To clear my fusalage, I need to use 2 extensions and longer bolts.

Has anyone tried this? Will it vibrate apart?

Thanks

Although the muffler may fit physically, looking at the bore and stroke, it would seem logical that you'll be losing quite a few RPMs. The muffler on the Tower .46 is a semi tuned muffler. They both have the same RPM range but the bigger cyllander and longer stroke means that the .55 uses more air. The .46 muffler could cause too much back pressure on the .55 thus reducing RPMs.
As for making up the distance, this is a 35 mm extention, or you could use one of these and make a mousse can muffler. I don't know what you have the engine in, but they also have a 90 degree adapter or even a pitts muffler that would fit the .55

WEll if you do, use Permatex "Seal and Bearing Retainer" Can usually find it at NAPA. Holds better under high heat than regular threadlockers

All I have to do is tach it on the ground to see if I get more RPM than my current baseline, right?

Thanks

Broke,

???

What gave you that idea?

What do the bore and the stroke have to do with this?

With an extension added, any Helmholz resonator/tuned silencer will be in tune at a lower RPM range, but it will still come into tune and would spin a larger prop, faster than the engine with the same extension and the standard muffler.

The muffler on the Tower .46 is a semi-tuned muffler. They both have the same RPM range but the bigger cylinder and longer stroke means that the .55 uses more air.
The .46 muffler could cause too much back pressure on the .55 thus reducing RPM.

The larger displacement engine may gain a little less than the smaller one. Increasing the outlet diameter of the Tower muffler by 0.5 mm, will take care of that.

Typically, .61 sized tuned pipes are used on .75-.91 engines, with longer headers, since they are typically timed for lower RPM anyway.
The OS.55AX is built into the same external size as the .46, so it would also do well with the .46 sized exhaust and would thrive on the extended length, to make good use of its lower intended RPM range.

The term 'semi-tuned' is wrong. It is a tuned silencer.
