How much / what is a decent car? I am a nitro guy so I would prefer that. Maybe in the $250-$350 range.

have a look at TEAM WALBERN or GRAND MOTORSPORTS
Both make awesome kits, I have a walbern pro stock and love it, the GMS kits appear to include more initially (fuel tank, etc) and you can get some really cool bodies for them from GMS, Roy Anderson Engineering, RC Drag Bodies and Rockingham Speed Products
