I couldn't imagine putting a 120 in a Velox. It's very fast with a P80.
Microdat, please post how his flight was with the 120.......... If it holds together
I'm sure it will

I would imagine it would go as fast as the bobcat with p120's (225 mph +++++ ), and I've seen a few bobcats with p120s.

I put 8 more flights on the Velox, she flies really good but on the 6th flight my retracts did not come down and I had to belly land her. I tried to get her as slow as possible as to minimize damage to the bottom. However, I totally forgot about the cobra manuer and she cobra'd on me 5 feet off the ground! It started to nose up so I gave it down elevator and some throttle (P60 mind you) and I was able to softly pancake her into some grass. Damage wasn't bad, only a few stratches on my aileron arms and the bottom of the booms. After a 15 minute fix and a quick check over the entire plane to make sure nothing critical was broken I took her up again for 2 more flights.

MicroDat. Where did you balance it? Mine is balanced in the middle of the anti rotation pins, with 2 7cell 1700mah nicds in the nose! A P-80 for power. This also includes 2 5cell Nimh 1400 for the Rx and a 6 cell 1200 ECU battery! When I was flying it I had to give a bit of up elevator. Just seems to be a bit nose heavy with all the fuel in front of the cg. Maybe when the fuel burns off during flight it will not be so nose heavy..

I also balanced mine on the anti-rotation pins. I use two 2300 mAh A123 batteries for the receiver and 1 3200 mAh 2S LIPO for the ECU (All three in the nose in front of the nose gear). I do have to hold some up elevator when I am below 100 mph but once I get it going its flat and level hands off. I did trim it for WOT so maybe it is a little nose heavy; but I'm not going to change anything as I don't mind holding on to the sticks when I'm flying. I usually fly very tight patterns with it anyways so it is rarely flat and level.

Thanks I decided to put in some down thrust. 1/8" (don't know how many degrees that is) Hopefully this should be fine. (P-80) Why do the Bob cats/King cats have SO much down thrust?

The bobcats and kingcats' have down thrust (i think) because their elevators are a lot lower than the Velox. Its even more down thrust as you go bigger in engine.

Been flying my Velox without flaps functional and it flies great, I think a lot of the dramas people have had with this plane have occured getting it to slow with flaps out and behind the power curve.... personally I just dont think this model needs to use flaps for normal sport flying so I fixed mine using straight hollow carbon shaft to replace the stock pin hinges. I have a Kingtech K80-E 8 kg (18 lb) thrust turbine installed and find it just about perfect power wise also. I am really enjoying flying this model, lots of fun

Flaps are nice but I can see why you wouldn't need it. I can land mine with full flaps on 10 to 20 feet of runway with a 5 to 10 mph headwind. You really have to get the plane super slow for it to cobra on you, and I mean really really slow.

Do u want speed?? I have a P120SE in mine. It goes super fast. Radar clocked at 240mph down wind and 225mph level flight. Wings and fuse was reinforced with fiberglass on the leading edges for high speed turns.. Dry weight 21.5lbs with full UAT. Also added an extra 35oz tank for longer flights to consume the P120SE. 6min flight time at full power just to be safe but can go longer. Check out my photos with a custom paint Job for visibility.

Hi everyone - I recently got a velox and starting build it - I have noticed that the hinges are not glued into the wing but do appear to be glued into the flap and ailerons. Can someone please tell me if this is the case or not The factory says that the hinges are not glued at all but I think I would have to break something to get them out of the control surfaces.

I got mine a few weeks ago (factory assembly), and on mine hinges were NOT glued on any side... But they were effectively very tight...

Mine has live hinges. I think I would have preferred the Robart style hinges.

Extract from my build thread on JMA website...

.........having flown the model quite a lot now and having moved the CG back 5mm (now 5mm aft of the C/L of the wing anti-rotation pin), reduced the full-flap travel and corresponding elevator compensation trim, I flew the model twice again yesterday to check out the latest changes and am happy with how it feels and performs. The set-up I have settled on is:

CG - 5mm aft of the C/L of the wing anti-rotation pin
Aileron movement - 14mm each way (measured at the tip - no expo...gives the very soft aileron I like)
Elevator Movement - 30mm each way (12% expo)
Rudder movement - 25mm each way (measured at the top - no expo)
Flap travel (measured at outb'd flap/inb'd aileron position):

Take-off: 20mm with 9mm up elevator trim mixed in
Full-flap: 35mm with 11mm elevator trim mixed in

(so that means there's 20mm up elevator trim required with full flap travel)

Happy New Year!

Hi Robin

Thanks for the reply - Did you have to break anything to get them out. Mine are really tight and I am a little scared of forcing them

No, I just removed them, but it was hard, but they get out... Try to rotate them, you will see if they are glued or just tight... If you can't rotate them, it may mean they are glued...
But as I said, mine wasn't... Also, some may be easier to remove, then if some are not glued you may assume that none of them are... I remember that some get out easily while other where very hard... Let us know, it may be usefull for future builder/buyer...

Hi Marty

I see you have put a K80 in yours - My standard mounting seems to be just a little narrow to allow for enough meat for the mounting screws - Can you possible explain how you did yours

Thanks

Good Move, I wouldn't hit a dog in the butt with 5125's for critical surface functions on jets, the gear train is too fragile, it's tough to make a strong gear when the thickness of the gear tooth is so thin!

Let us know how the maiden goes!

Well tonight I did a little layout work to fit my Rabbit into the Velox, I came up with some adapter plates that will allow me to flip my Rabbit between my Flash and the Velox.
