Another fine day's flying at Wroughton today! It was a pleasure to have the company of my good friend Reuben Saliba (Sabre) at the field today. Reuben's over from Malta for a few days and sacrificed the opportunity of a day's sightseeing in the Cotswolds for a day at Wroughton (the decision took all of a nano-second to make!).

As is usual on a Sunday at Wroughton, the jets had the airfield to themselves after lunchtime, and plenty of flying was had by all. The shots below show Reuben and my Velox, and Ian Bailey's Venom just after lift-off.

Cheers,

Dick

Question to the guys in the UK, after 6 years in Japan I am packing up and moving to the UK in the next 9 months, will be based in Hereford. I would like to know of any clubs for RC Jets close to Hereford. I have never built RC planes before and would like to join a club so I can learn to fly and build, starting with a trainer, then a Mitsubishi Zero before moving on to a few Skymasters!

Any advice would be helpful

Email information to

Thank you in advance

Hi,

Best thing to do is find out where the local clubs are in the area...if you go to this link you should be able to whittle it down. Also remember that the BMFA is available for advice - their email address is on the homepage of the link...

We were joined by Andy Bascombe at Wtn today...Andy's the Global Jet Club rep here in the UK and he was flying his P-160SX powered L-39. Beautiful model, looked stunning in today's clear sky. Didn't have the 'big' camera with me unfortunately, but I did catch Andy (and big Geoff) after the second of Andy's four flights today...

Cheers,

Nice flying aeroplane, flew great when I test flew it from our grass strip near Watford. Only issues were the small main gear door rams and rudder linkage, Andy changed the rams to large UP rams and the rudder to a fin mounted direct linkage and its now 100%.
Another is being built in the local club in a black scheme.

Certainly does fly well, Dave...Andy's got it sorted to operate exactly as advertised, a no-fuss, good looking aeroplane. Always thought this would make a good jet trainer model...good looker, easy to see in the sky, 'safe' planform, loads of room inside, very sturdy undercarriage, breaks down easy for transport, and so on. It's got all the ingredients for someone getting into jets...plus it's scale.

Cheers,

Dick

Would be nice Laura...trouble is that we (the Swindon Club) are seen as a 'customer' and have to hire the airfield for any activities we put on (including our Club BBQ)...gone are the days when we could negotiate the airfield for a 'free' weekend. Last year when we enquired, it was £1500 a day!

You'll just have to bite the bullett - come to the retail outlet for the day and leave Mick to play with the toys back home! Either that or pester Jason to put on something at Long Marston, then you could shop at Stratford, Cheltenham, Birmingham...loads of places to unload cash at!

Cheers,

Dick

Long Marston ain't an airfield anymore. Plus crap journey from our neck of woods.
Wroughton and Oldham use to be the great dos and Kemble in the early days.
Top gun was good too during the Leavesley. Jim fox days.
St Athans good that seems to have gone too now

Good old days

You missed many good JMA meetings this year, both Scampton meetings were blessed

Yes,

The JMA had some superb meetings this year, whilst the weather is not always what we desire it is always good to see old and new faces.

Have to say the weather was great for the Elvington weekend.

Errr Long Marston is still an airfield, it was last Monday anyway. I don't remember a jet meet in Oldham but there again I rarely travel up north to jet meets anyway.

Another fine day's flying at Wtn...Harry Curzon unveiled his AD F-100 and did all the usual pre-flight ground tests. All being well, first flight should take place next weeend. This model's the subject of a forthcoming review in RCJI...the following pics should whet the appetite!

Cheers,

Dick

After a lightning dash from Gosport to weston this morning to pick up the models i finally made it to Wroughton earlier than i expected, and the rushing about was well worth it! I have not flown at Wroughton for a while . . . Maxmodel 2006 was the last time and now i will very soon be a member i will make it much more often. Had a very good day, thanks to Dick for signing me on . . . very much appreciated, how did your pictures come out? Jase said you had a few good ones.
