Hi,

I am looking for a electric truck or stadium truck for bashing and to run in my alley. I used to own a Savage X before. I was looking at specs of Traxxas Rustler XL-5 because its electric and only $150.
What i am looking for is something to bash in the parks and to drive in the alley, bashing and speed are the things i am looking for. Can Rustler XL-5 do wheelies?

Please advise how Rustler Xl-5 is ? and also let me know what other options do i have?

Thanks

In stock form the Rustler XL-5 is ok. It may do wheelies but you will need to use a smaller pinion and as always, good batteries are always a way to ensure the best performance out of any motor setup. A good $40 IB 4200 6-cell 7.2v pack is what you want for decent runtimes and speed. 7 and 8-cells packs will give you more speed/power but at the cost of motor life.

If you want wheelies, then the Stampede XL-5 can do those a little easier due to its higher center of gravity. However, for speed the Rustler is the better choice.

But in order to get good speeds you will end up having to invest in a good brushless system, such as the ~$250 Novak GTB system, the Mamba Max system (about $180), or the countless other brands out there. With a brushless system in there you will be able to keep up and possibly surpass nitro performance, but you will need to upgrade your transmission to handle the power. An aluminum idler gear is a must as the stock plastic one can strip from the constant on/off power and shock a truck can go through.

There are other hop-ups you can do, but I'll let you read through the countless other Rustler threads here to see what people are running in their trucks.

Depending on gearing, with 6-cells I understand it goes between 20-25mph. I don't own the XL-5 version, but that is a good estimate of the XL-5 Titan 12t version with 6-cells. My Rustler has a Mamba max 5700, and with a 6-cell IB4200 pack geared 15/84 (gets hot to around 150'F) it looks like low 30mph range (my brother's Novak GTB + 6.5R Bandit buggy is slightly faster).
