HI, a heads up on this, In Tulsa Oklahoma as part of a bi-centennial, the city buried a time
capsule, the main item being a factory brand new 1957 Plymouth Belvedere 2dr
in a cement vault, with its unveiling to be 50 years later,, its time to come up now,
June 15th 1957 june15 2007
check it out here has a vid clip that explains it with footage etc
a raffle was held at time of car's burial with whoever guess's Tulsa's population
in 2007 ( raffle was of course 50 years ago) wins the car
of course that person may be dead etc in that case it goes to a surviving son daughter etc
Been watching this on web last few days, its getting a lot of world wide attention as its
never be done before, wonder what shape its gonna be in

I hope it had a good coat of wax, probably a rustbucket by now, unless the vault was hermetically sealed. That's what we need, another gas guzzling Mopar on the road . Too bad they couldn't see into the future and know what car would be the real classic. For that year, undoubtedly it should have been a Chevy BelAir 2 door hardtop.

Who suggested using a Plymouth?

Would have been a great way to make a comparison. Bury a Toyota, a Chevy, a Ford, and a Mopar, see which one still resembles a car in 40 years.

I heard about this on the news! It was terrible. Came out and was rusted all over and they couldn't even start it

Probably still would have rusted with the water leaking into the capsule and condensation inside the plastic.

I watched this event unfold on live TV the night of the 15th. My grandfather was one of those who guessed the population of Tulsa and put it inside the car. He died in 59, so I still don't know what he guessed. The car was a mess due to the concrete vault allowing water inside.....probably 49 years ago. The time capsule items in the car were ok if they were sealed. Some items like manifests, items from the era were sealed in a keg-like container. That was about all that was truly salvageable. People came across the pond to see this. Geeeez.

Here's a couple links to pictures of the car. Any idea what they plan on doing with it?

A little Turtle Wax and some Rustoleum and it'll look like new.
