Yes, I would agree. YOu should not have to do that, it some come with the correct fit.

Emery cloth is very fine sand paper, only not sand, some other material usually backed by cloth. Easiest place to find it for me is HomeDepot in the plumbing department, its used on brass plumbing to prep the metal for soldering.

2) The anti-rotation rod(terminology?) is too large for the anti-rotation bracket. In order for it to slide freely I would have to file or sand out the inside of the bracket, but I'm not sure that's a good idea since it's already very thin to begin with.

I took the rod off the swash plate, stuck it in my drill press and turned it on, then held a piece of emery cloth too it to skinny it down a tad. took a while, but the results were good.

Strange - mine fits fine!

I found mine to be a little tight. not by much, maybe .01 mm or so, but just enough that i wanted a better fit. of course, I'm not done with my build yet (and heading for vacation, 9 days on the beach in Mexico), so time will tell whether my mod was worth it.

Mine is not a little tight, it just plain doesn't fit. I can force the rod into the bracket and let go of the head while holding on to only the bracket.... the weight of the head is supported by the rod. Yes, it is that tight. I'll grab a pic later.

mine was also very tight. i reamed out the slot in the bracket with a small file till the rod fit just loose enough without side play.

i don't want to pop any balloons here flynlo, but it almost sounds like you got a kit someone has had already. why would the canopy
be painted? and mine came with the 3400kv motor w/fan. supposed to be a little more torque.
didn't have any problems with the belt drive brg. or the main gear other than the 2 gears don't line up exactly. off by a couple
mm. no big deal. and i can't think of how the links would have gotten bent unless somebody bent them

I was thinking the same thing, maybe you got (inadvertently or otherwise) a returned kit. Cant imagine why the canopy was painted (and so badly).

Not sure guys, everything was packed nicely and the bags were sealed. I don't suspect a returned kit, maybe just bad or no quality control.

i'm even wondering if you got a v2 instead of a v3 b/c of the 3500kv mot. quick way to tell is the aluminum boom mounts.
the v2 had 4 pieces, 2 sets of 2 that screwed together. the v3 has 2 pieces. each one clamps to the boom by tightening a long
screw to close the gap in the mount. also, the tail servo brackets are 2 piece that can be put on after the boom is mounted.

i've never heard anything bad about HELIDIRECT, so if you feel you got short changed (screwed ) , they should make
it right.

there are some things that require modifiying when building a heli. thats normal. but if you got a used v2, thats not right.

Pretty sure it's a v3 because of the aluminum piece on the anti-rotation bracket and yes, the boom mounts are in fact 2 pieces instead of 4.

Not sure about the motor still... is the 3400 a better motor than the 3500 that I got?
What are the advantages/disadvantages of each?

then who knows. No longer wondering if you got a new/old kit. I recently got 4, 2 of which did not have main frames bags. HD took care of it right quick, but QC? I always check those things before they leave the door now! Cant count ball links and such, but make sure all items are present and accounted for. No QC process is perfect

I swear I have the 3500kv motor with my V3, but I will check when I get home and let you know. Mine also has a fan on the bottom.

OK - this is weird. My 2 month old V3 came with a motor marked as 3500kv on the bottom, and has a squirrel cage type fan on the bottom. SO - what did I get, the old motor, the old motor modified with the fan, or what? I have no idea what the original 3500kv motor that came on the V2 looked like - please, someone let me know what I have!!! (it is an outrunner, but maybe they all are!)

I just received my HDX450 today! Assembly is going pretty good for the most part. The aluminum is more of an aqua color than a blue but I like it.

It came with a 3500kv motor with a 13T pinion.
I was expecting the "Upgraded powerful Brushless motor 3400KV with fan - Super powerful and cool - NEW!!!"
-- I don't know the difference though, could someone please explain the 3400 vs 3500kv?

There are a few issues that I will need HeliDirect to resolve unless someone could give me other solutions. Here's the list:

1) The lower bearing on the belt drive assembly doesn't sit flush, so the upper main gear rubs on the belt drive gear. I pushed this bearing down as hard as I wanted to but it wouldn't go any further. I scraped the inside of the bracket with a metal pick to see if there was a metal burr or something but nope, just sits too high.

2) The anti-rotation rod(terminology?) is too large for the anti-rotation bracket. In order for it to slide freely I would have to file or sand out the inside of the bracket, but I'm not sure that's a good idea since it's already very thin to begin with.

3) a couple of the linkage rods are badly bent and unusable.

4) The lower main gear seems to be a little warped. I assume that would induce vibration when the heli is spooled up?

5) I was told by Larry that I was going to get a white canopy that I could paint, but it's already been airbrushed yellow and orange. Whoever painted it did a really bad job lining up the black "window" section as it is off-center and would definitely not be good for orientation during nose-in flight. Not to mention it looks pretty stupid. Here's a picture:

I didn't like the landing gear mine came with, so I bought the Trez "struts and used the orignal skids. Bolts right onto the frame.

I agree - I put an HDX gear on my AxeCP, and it has bent slightly. Is there a similar gear made of spring steel maybe??
