Hi guys,

Here's a recent video I took while flying my HDX 450, notice how fast it soared to the blue yonder, as a matter of fact it wasn't intentional, I had a hard time to control it & land it safely, later on I found 2 things that went wrong, first the Allen screws for the flybar were gone and secondly one of the longest link rod had a lot of play due to a ball link screw that came loose.
After putting some Loktite on the screws, the heli now is flying normally.

Wow those look fantastic! I might have to snap one of those up, now only to decide which color...

Why did you go with metal landing struts? The stock are flexible right, so more crash resistant yeah?

Not so strong my friend, I have a broken stock strut after a hard landing.

EDIT: I still can't decide if I want to match the CNC head and go all blue themed, or add some red to the mix. Have you flown with both yet? Which is nicer for keeping orientation?

I've been using the trex flybars (either 200 or 220mm, I forget) for a while on my HDX and it works flawlessly. Right now my HDX is grounded until Medusa sends me back my motor, which I sent in for repair (I think one of the bearings went. The shaft wasn't perfectly still, and was shredding the main gear).

Now that's funny, one of the stock motor bearing exploded while I was hovering in my backyard, the heli has something like 10 flights when this happened, I now have a brand new Align 430XL on it.

I keep hearing about the stock sonix motor's bearings failing. After comparing my 430L, medusa 28-32-2400, and sonix, the sonix is definitely more powerful than the 430L, and about the same as the medusa. Now that i've picked the most powerful motor out of my collection, i'd be a little peeved if it failed.

The 430XL is quite powerful too, it equips the Trex 450V2.
I got it with a 20% discount from Helidirect who didn't want to take tha warranty claim because my HDX is just under 2 months old.

Ah I see, well at least they helped you out. I might be tempted to see if they'd discount the JGF 500TH if mine goes out. I've heard it gets a little more flight time and has comparable power to the 430XL.

Trumpet, why don't you try my motor (Medusa 28-40-3400)? It should have more power than the other medusa you tried (which was smaller).

Hmm, I wondered what the diff was between the 28-32-3400 and 28-40-3400. I've heard of people using both in mini helis with similar results.

I wouldn't be opposed to trying it, but its still probably a $60-80 motor right? For that much I could get the tried and true JGF 500TH which runs cooler with similar (more?) power, or just wait and save up for a Neu 1701H/1.5Y or 1701H/2Y.

I don't have anything against medusa's, but everything i've heard is that they run hot. Hot = inefficient and/or poor cooling design. On top of that, it gets pretty hot around here in the summers, and it just makes me nervous to have a hot motor. Just asks for trouble IMHO.

Yes the motor does get hot. I am using an old heatsink from my blade cp motor, and it takes off a lot of the heat. From what I've read, this motor for 80 is not a bad price. The JGF will give you better flight times and go easier on the batteries, but it is not as powerful as the medusa. The medusa 40 is bigger and 30 grams heavier (than the 28), so I assume that means more power and more heat/current draw. The neu is probably the best balance of power and efficiency (from all I've read), but it costs the most money. I'm happy with my motor, but I may try a NEU in the future (if I can find it anywhere to buy, I've looked everywhere and no sign of them).

Cool, good to know. Your medusa sounds like a great mid-cost motor, but I dunno, for some reason my brain handles <$60 and >$60 very differently. $130 is alot more than $80, but i'd rather either wait and get the neu rather than the medusa, or go ahead get the JGF nowish. Just my quirky financial disposition

I just finished reading through the neu thread today , and apparently they make them by hand instead of mass production. So, right now you can only get them from http://www.neumotors.com , and it takes awhile (waiting list type thing).

Hmmm... I just found the neu on http://www.flydma.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=1_4_14
Maybe I should sell you my medusa for 60 and get that one... hmmmm

If I may, after reading 20 pages of neu thread lol, I'd hold out for the newer 1107H versions. They're the same price as the old ones offered on that site, and have been vastly improved. Supposedly they improved the fan design, use stronger magnets, and are much more efficient.

Ok I'll hold off my horrible buying compulsion
Also, I noticed they offer the motor with a 2.3mm shaft and a 3.2mm shaft. The pinions I have are all 3.17 and all the ones on helidirect are 3.17 or 3 or 2.3 etc., but no 3.2. Do you know if it's really 3.17?

Yep, you gotta be careful with those compulsions man. I got hit by one a week or two ago and dropped $120 on upgrades for the HDX and some parts to build a foamie plane. The only reason my brain didn't stop me was because it was 2 separate $60 orders, tricky tricky.

From what I've read people that say 3.2mm are actually just rounding up, so it is in fact 3.17. They offer it in both so you can run the smaller pinions. I can't decide whether the larger shaft size is worth losing the ability to run smaller pinions, hmm...
