This heli looks like a pretty good deal! I have read that the frame is easier to deal with (in terms of build and repairs) than the frame on the Trex. Can anyone attest to that? I am in the early stages of making a decision, but this looks like a top contender. Would the general consensus be that the pros far outweigh the cons?

This heli rocks. To answer your question, this birds pro's outwiegh any cons. I personally sold my remaining trex for this bird. Not that i did not like the trex, its just that is bird is so much more.

Special deals on HDX450v3's for those who ask.

The HDX450 builds fairly easily. Everything fit very well. There were some screws missing, but that's no big deal (I had some equivalent screws lying around and I bought a TREX linkage set). I'm new to heli's and the HDX 450 is rock solid in hover and very controllable with expo and flybar weights. I have a HBKII and this heli is a whole new level of power and looks! The price comparison from a TREX with the CNC parts would not even be close. BTW, Michael at USHobbysupply.com gave me a great price and even emailed me to see if I needed any support from him. What else could you ask for? If you buy one get it from him.

I was wondering if one of these threads was around. Just got the "V3" on order. I looked at all of them and all are good. Cost gets a bit strange but my reason was not cost but construction of the frame boasting this G10 material not being conductive to electricity like carbon fiber

To me, this is a very important and possibly overlooked point when purchasing one of these. Many who have the other brands are complaining of glitches and attributing it to the frames.

Yah, i have one (or more) sitting in a box. I want to build one bad, but right now i'm working on the HBK2. I got a report from a customer that the one he got was FANTASTIC.
He recently crashed and bent the main shaft. He went to the LHS, bought an Align, flipped it over and works like a charm!!!!

Michael

Can I replace the HDX450 Main Rotor Hub (http://www.helidirect.com/product_i...products_id=863) with the Trex one (http://www.helidirect.com/product_i...roducts_id=2102) ?
I want to replace it because the small grub screw in the collar holding the guide pins strip so easy and I have no way to get it out. I end up have to buy the whole new main rotor hub because they do not sell this collar separately.
I posted this message on rcgroups but did not have any response so I tried here. Sorry if you happened to read this twice.

Can anybody shed some light on this? I received mine a few days ago. Very impressed although it is my first "heli" build and I have nothing to compare it with. Everything is fine up to this point. I do have one concern so far and that is the tailrotor drive assembly under the anti rotation bar. I am very uncomfortable with this. I brought it up to a guy as something to replace if they come out with a V-4.

Prior to mounting it, the bearings are smooth. After installation, very rough and "ratchety" the set screw is not even in it. So this tells me there is some twisting in it all. So I removed it and made all the mounting holes on the frame a tad larger to include that protruding piece on both side. This helped quite a bit as it seem to get everything all squared up but still don't like the feel of it.

How freewheeling should it be? Right now its a barebones setup, no engine or a thing on it yet. The belt is on but as i read somewhere else, any type of retriction wil be a drain on the entire setup. What is the test here, spin the head and let if freewheel around and around or not much? Right now its smooth but restrictive. It's like with the belt on, I feel its pulling on the bearing setup causing the twisting again.

On another note, The "V3" build vs the videos around are a bit confusing as the videos are older versions. The main differences are the hardware most of the frame now mounts with socket head type screws instead of the silver phillips head. Also the anti rotatinbar has a blue bar attached to it and them goes into the frame. A few other things that are a no brainer and if I canfigure it out, thenthose who have build something already should get it.

kz4q66, yes you can replace that part with the Align one. I had the exact same problem. I have a V3 and I use the Align main shaft, Align dark blue main and tail drive gear. Works great.

Did you have to flip the align shaft up side down?

Not sure if you have to flip iit upside down, but its pretty obvious which end needs to be pointed up or down once you get it in.

Motor mounting on a V3? I have 4 holes on top of the motor, 2 large holes and two small ones and only 2 screws. One for each hole. Nothing lines up at all no matter what angle i try. Am I missing something here?

Well I removed the mount to make life easier. Looks like it requires two of the smaller screws of which i am missing one. Well work stoppage until the morning.

Took care of that minor mess.

Well I took a good look at the landing gear that came with the kit. Decided it looked stupid and bought the T-rex skid frames and kept my skids tubes. Mounted right in the same holes.

I would like to know which Trex 450 parts that can be used for the HDX 450.

Well I only started on my HDX and changed a few things but nearly most stuff will work. The bearings in the tailrotor drive under the head are the same. last night I changed out the landing gear and again, the pre drilled holes lined up.
