December RC Heli has a review of the HDX450-V3!! Gave it a 4 out of 5 overall - slammed the instructions, twisting paddles, binding washout arms, and the weak pitch change links.

They replaced the Sonix washout arms with the Align brand. replaced the flybar with the T-Rex V2 long one, and glued the paddles - they suggested replacement paddles that have a set screw.

They were really impressed with it overall - said the stock motor bogged down in heavy 3-D - after the review they replaced it with a Neu motor and said it really took off!

Twisting Flybar paddles? Maybe, seems like a dab of loctite will cure this. 4 out of 5 is good. Need to take reviews with a grain of salt. I assume this was done by a person with substantial experience and still giving it a 4 on a scale of 5. Consider his experience vs most of ours. These things come with the basics. Anybody who is a top pilot and wants a top perfomer is not going to use what it comes with. With that, a review can be tainted. Also for any of us who are new at helis are not going to be able to agree or disagree with their findings.

Take planes. I've been flying them for years and many of them are same planes for years. I know my setups well. If i change to a different prop on one, I can tell immediately whether this was good or bad. I don't evenrecall what my point to all this was. I don't have much experience with helis and only about 10 flights on an AXE before the head blew apart. So with this new Belt CP I hope to be able to tell right away whether or not this would be a better trainer than an AXE

4 out of 5 is a damn good rating FOR A 300.00 heli from an exp. pilot. i don't think t-rex did any better .
i'm about halfway thru my build and discovered some nice changes on the v3. one is the tail servo brks. i had my boom on and
tail installed, belt adjusted, vertical and horizontal fins on and lined up. struts on. all loctited. then i stood back to take in how
cool it looked, and went , OH S&*T . where's the tail servo brks.? i had put them aside and hadn't really looked at them, so once i did i was pleasently surprised . 2 piece design so you don,t have to put them on the boom first. also, you don't have to remove the boom to flip em around to fit different servos. good idea. i'd post a pic if i knew how. maybe one of you other guys can post a pic to show what i mean. anyway, so far, so good

Mine should be in next week sometime - shelled out $866 in all:
HDX450 - V3-Black Frame w/ FREE CARRY CASE
HDX450 - BTY - Black Battery Tray
HDX450 - FS - Screw Bag
HDX450 - LG02 - Alum Landing Gear
HDX450 - LSBS - Linkage Balls and Ball Screws
HDX450 - S04 - Main Shaft
HDX450 - S02 - FlyBar HDX450
HDX450 - S05V2 - Strong Steel Tail Drive Shaft with Gear
HDX450 - TAIL BOOM - MAGIC BLUE
4 ea. HITEC HS-65MG Servo
HS1204-84 - Align CNC Washout Arms - Blue
H60011 - FlyBar Paddles (with set screw)

CC35 ESC and programming cable
Air Thunder 2200 mAh 11.1v 3S1P LiPo battery pack

Yeah, I know, I went cheap on the gyro - saved me $100 (and probably my marriage!) but will see how it performs - this gyro got very good reviews when a heli it was installed in was reviewed - said it held strong in hard climb outs and 3D. (heck, I'm not anywhere near that yet!)

what ya gonna use for tx/rx. i'm lookin at the spectrum dx6i. supposed to have more of the dx7 stuff like 5 pitch curves instead of 3.
stuff like that. 180.00 there-a-bouts. i went with the logictech 2100 gyro. hearin good things about it. later, i'll get a digital tail servo
but for now i have a hs65hb.

i know what ya mean about keepin your banker ( wife ) happy . mine asks me if the more expensive helis are made so they won't break when i crash. . when i say no, she gives me that look like, " and you pay money knowing it's gonna break ?"
luckally, i save us money on things i do around the house and on our cars, so it's a trade off.
let us know how you build goes.

So the next question to ask for everyone else's benefit is what servo (if any) will fit right?

I was using the JR SM22 servos for cyclic up till Sunday when I crashed and took them out. They fit great..just needed a washer as the mounting hole in the servo is big. I have some HS-65's coming in. Good to know I'll have to mod the holes a bit for install now. Hehe won't be an unsuspected surprise when I do them.

I have my frame altogether. The videos are good but a tad off from the V3 but nothing serious. All the screws which hold the frame together are now socket heads.

It looks to me like the gyro on the HDX450 is mounted on the top. Is this true? Can it be mounted in a better place?

As a follow-up to my other post, what do you guys think of the stock electronics from the HDX450V3 kit? I am already planning on using the 401 or LT2100 gyro, but what about the motor and ESC? Should I be upgrading those right away?
