A simple question: why are the exhaust temperatures in our 4 stroke model engines hotter than the 2 stroke engines?

Given that the 4 stroke engine fires every 2nd revolution, one could conclude that the heat should not be as great. I base my question on personal experience. The tank pressure line connected to the exhaust header on my Saito 45 has become darkened & is quite brittle whereas the line on my OS46SF has remained the same colour & retains its flexibility.

I'm not too interested in how much hotter but why it is hotter.

Isn't it a more concentrated/dense and efficient charge in the 4s?

The two stroke always has remnants of the exhaust from the last rev in the cylinder.

Yes HP, perhaps the incoming fuel charge on the 2 stroke helps cool the exhaust gases & the cylinder. And as this happens twice as often on the 2 stroke engine as opposed to the 4 stroke engine = more cooling effect. Seems logical.

How about the fact that a typical two stroke mufler is waaay bigger and has cooling fins too.
