Hi guys
i need help
my tiger 1 has developed a fault with the front sprockets. First the tank has metal tracks , sprockets, and idlers and metal gear box. Have looked at the idlers and they seems to be no play in them when the tank is on flat smooth ground it will go forwards and backwards fine but struggles to turn right and especially bad attempting left it makes a grinding clicking sound. It also doesnt like inclines at all the sprockets cant seem to cope with the stress.

any ideas will be welcome

andy

When my tiger made strange clickings while turning, it meant that the tracks had just jumped across the idlers, one row of theeth was stuck and running along the middle of the idler and I was about to break a track section.
Well, actually I did broke it because I did not stop to run, but I was young. Now I stop immediately as I hear any clicking coming from the tracks.

The problem is caused by the road wheels mving out of alignment with the drive sprocket

If you've got metal tracks then it's a good idea to fit metal suspension arms as these don't flex like the plastic ones. My T1 couldn't go more the a couple of feet without the track trying to come off, but since I added metal suspension arms I've not had any trouble.

one thing i found with my new tiger, is that the plastic tracks and sprockets do not actually mesh well!! i have the sprocket/treads off, and just holding the sprocket, then draping the treads over, i held the sprocket and rotated it, making the tracks move over it, and every few inches, the tracks jumped a sprocket!! kinda makes me wonder about some things...

The tracks tend to "stretch" after a bit of use and any badly molded bits get worn down.
