What are the disadvantages of a HDX450

what about a chopperX? or a SE 450 knockoff.

Is the HDX450 like a nike without the logo? or is it a unengineered ripoff? Would a HDX450 be as valid as a SE 450 but without the heavy pricetag? or are they comparable?

also what would I want if I got a 450 SE

Futaba GY401 Gyro
Hitech HS65 x 3

what about the tail servo. would I use the Futaba GY401 with the extra digital servo or would you recommend an additional Hitech HS65.

What motors would you recommend and other parts to finish it off.

The HDX isn't exactly a ripoff. It's based on an upgrade frame for the Trex450. They took the upgrade frame, and took a bunch of other aftermarket parts for the Trex, and basically compiled it into a fully functional heli. So it's kinda an engineered mish-mash of Trex450 upgrades. From my personal experience, and comparing mine to a friends two Trexs, the HDX is a very potent product. It's very comparable to the trexs, if not better (shhh don't tell the align guys)

Yeah probably, 401 and S9650, HG65's. If you got the HDX the motor that comes with it works nicely, but I'm using an align 430L b/c I have it. The new 430XL would be awesome with it!

I just finished my HDX 450 V3 and I gotta say.. I LOVE it. Only complaints are that the leads from my HiTec swash servos coulda been a little longer to allow for better routing across the superframe.. AND, I replaced the linkage set with the TRex 450 set due to them being thicker rods and a little higher quality ball sockets. No slop, very precise. I don't think I could have done better for the money! Hell, even the CF Main Rotor blades were almost perfectly balanced out of the package.

Yeah my blades were perfect. Which align part number is it for the rod package? I wouldn't mind replacing mine.

I don't recall the part number as it was a couple months ago and I picked it up from the LHS.. I visually verified it had the right number and approx length of rods in it. I'm 'pretty sure' it was the 450SE set, but from looking that up just now it's short one of the swash links.. hmmmm...

EDIT: I THINK it was the CDE TRex 450. Visually verify if you can at a hobby shop tho.. the other link kits don't have enough rods, but I can tell from all the web pictures if the CDE has the right lengths.. But I KNOW FOR SURE it was a TREX kit.. hehe

As for the electronics,
3-HS65MGs or HBs for cyclic,
GY401/9650 or HDS577, http://grandrc.com/inc/sdetail/43330
As for ESC and motor, you can get the Align combo for $100 or so, 35G & 430L.
