Status: offline 		I just got a World Models T34 to race in the Triangle Series in California. Anybody racing in this series have any suggestions or tips on building this plane. Looks very simple but thought there might be something I should look out for.

Status: offline 		Hi JW; I just started racing in the Triangle series. Do You have a copy of the rules and guidelines? If not they are available online at T-34racing.com. The plane builds easily, but pay attention to the front wheel steering linkage, if not installed properly your steering will be backwards. You will need to replace the muffler bolt with threaded rod and lock nuts and secure the muffler with wire or tie straps, or weld the muffler together(remove the baffle before welding), the stock bolt WILL break. It is a good idea to reinforce the center wing joint with fiberglass or carbon fiber. When installing the main landing gear put the long side of the wire in the wing, this makes the landing gear shorter for reduced drag and better ground handling. When setting up your elevator servo and linkage put the control horn on the top of the elevator so the servo is pulling when you give up input(you may have to cut a new pushrod exit in the fuse above the horizontal stab). You may also want to replace the the stock pushrods with carbon fiber or metal. Most of the guys use tape to attach the canopy, some also tape the cowl, i use screws, i don't know if it matters much. Thats all i can think of right now, I hope to see you at Morgan Hill on the 23rd.

Status: offline 		bkf has given you some good tips here. I personally do not do anything other than put lots of glue on the wing joints I also leave the landing gear stock. Make sure your engines are in very good condition, what may be a good sport engine is too worn to be a race engine, we run these things over 16.5k. I replace the push rods and use z-bends (in fact a part of the rules) on the elevator, rudder and ailerons. if you set up servos as per part 18 on page 8 of the manual this will ensure that and then bring the rudder push rod out on that side of the plane. As you go through with the racing you will develop your own ideas and methods for each plane, I always put a flag on the bottom of mine for easy identification (see photo on the customer photos section of www.california-hobbies.com).

You will also need race numbers, I get mine from a club member at SCCMAS (morgan hill), but you can also get them I beleive from Steve at onsightsigns.com (bkf can you confirm). Come out to SCCMAS any Sunday afternoon, there is normally at least 1 or 2 racers there with a T-34, if I have one of mine I will be more than happy to show you everything I normally do. Also check out the SCCMAS.org website, there is a forum there where a fellow racer put build tips for a T-34 up including photos.

If you need planes or just a copy of the rules then contact Kevin Norred (T34RACING@YAHOO.COM) he is the race series director and he also is a world models distrubuter, I get my planes and spinners from him. I will also point him here when I see him tomorrow.

Status: offline 		Thanks for all the good information. Just got back from Vegas, and ready to start building. As far as the engine it's brand new, I'll break it in this weekend, and should be ready for the next race in the series.
