How do I tell if my diff is shot? I was having clutch problems, now when I rotate the front wheel, it sounds kind of crunchy?? Before taking the whole thing apart, how can I tell for sure if I need to? Thanks..
well it depend on what clutch. slipper, or clutch bell shoes. if you think your diff is shot just rotate the gear coming out of the transmission box(check for grind) if none then spin the front tires and watch the shaft so that it moves freely.
Just took the front end off, looked at the diff, and it though a tad jagged here and there, it looks OK.. Put it back together and it seems OK now. When I hold the entire truck in the air instead of just the front end, everything seems to rotate as it should....
To be honest I don't even know where the slipper is on this thing..
If its the 1/8 GT then they dont have a slipper. The diffs are the weak point on the lightning GT and GTX2,I have the GTX2 and have upgraded to the hardened diff gears front and rear, aswell as alloy diff cases from the Savage and never had a problem since. It would also be a good idea to upgrade the clutch to the 3 shoe if its 2 shoe and install the 3 shoe flywheel and alloy clutch shoes....[;)]
