Hi all,
I got 3 packs of the A123 Hypersonic 3S1P and a charger.
I got a big surprise when I realze that the packs won't fit on my current planes.
Since I was already planning to get a bigger plane, I would like to know what Airframe, Motor and ESC are you using.

I have very few experience on RC flying so any help on deciding what plane would be a right one for a newbie will be very appreciated.
Thanks
AA

I am using them in a Telemaster Electro (Hobby Lobby). You have room enough to put in just about any combination of batteries you can think of. AXI 2826-12 swings 13 X 6.5 APC E prop. Have had to open the bulkheads on 4 models that were previously glo (.40-.46) powered, aslo with same motor and prop as Telemaster.

Hi red, thanks for the response,
Are you using the Jeti 40 ESC?
3 cell packs?

How much time are you getting on this plane with the A123, 3S1P ?
Thanks

I also am flying a E-Tele with the A123. We are flying 4 cell packs to take the place of the 3 cell lipo. I have an LT 25 with the same setup.
My Fledgling calls for a 2 cell lipo, I use a 3 cell A123.

Hi red, thanks for the response,
Are you using the Jeti 40 ESC? Yes, I'm drawing 32 amps max with 4SA123 and about 30A with 3SLipo and ju
3 cell packs?

How much time are you getting on this plane with the A123, 3S1P ? 4S2P A123 - about 20 minutes or more with throttle management. Same for 3SLipo packs

Thanks
AA

I have a AJ300 and a Diamante -both fully aeobatic -both weigh ready to fly 3.4 lbs . both 500sq inch models
on 13x8-14.7 APC props on 32 EFite motors and Align 75 amp esc and ParkBec BEC
Contrary to the BS I got from the hard core lipo fans --these models will do all the stuf easily with the 4 cell 123pack
amps are 40+ as needed
flight times easily over 8 min and 10 min for no 3D flying
I use up to 2 amps on a flight no real heat in the cells just warm. I am NOT pushing them at all.
next up is larger aerobatic stuff.

I was using 3S packs in a Fliton Mini-Inspire. TONS of vertical, amps, and pulling power, but unfortunately when the plane wasn't going vertical it was a brick with wings. I broke the landing gear multiple times because of the speed I had to keep on landing. The wing loading was high and it would wing rock violently if you got too slow on landing. Went to LiPo's (reluctantly) and now the plane flies well and lands slow.

.
My 2S packs work wonderfully for chasing geese in my Duratrax buggy, and the two 3S packs are going to be re-purposed as dual receiver and ignition packs when I get my 50cc gasser. . .
.
.
Don't get me wrong, the A123's are THE future of electric flight, but right now they're too heavy for any set of wings I have in my stable. . .

This is a great thread to see what all people are flying them in, on your plane what was the wingspan and sq in and all?
i was wondering what would be a good smaller plane to use them in, I have a Mini edge but I think it needs a few more inches of wing span to work with them. me and my father figured out if you have a over 40 inch wingspan with over 400 sq in of wing area that would be plenty for a 4 cell pack

Well Now I can add to the list, I flew my E-flite mini Edge with a 4 cell A123 cell pack today, it flys great, still has a decent glide rate and the stall is not any worse then with the 1700 lipo pack.
lack of 3D with it, being the plane is at 32 ounces now, but sport fly loops, rolles, knife edge, spins, snaps.inverted(nose pitched up) it flys great. 2300MAH with that pack flew 8-10 minutes at 10 mins half-3/4 stick still have plenty pack left to run the radio and have juice to land.

landings were fine also. it glided a little faster, being weighing more but any plane would, these planes you need to fly like a real one, up elevator keep that nose up and make it slow down.

BTW half thorttle is 225watts of power. these A123 cells really juice the plane, now I need a 45 A ESC to go in her before I cook my poor 25A one.

I was using 16xGP3300 packs in my Venus 40. Now I'm using MEC SPTs with M1s in 6sx2 paralleled and I lost a bit of weight and gained power. Tex.

He is also getting ready to use them on a old Sig Fazer glow plane that the engine just craped out on so got a Axi ( not sure the Number) and going to be using a 60A CC esc on it.. It should fly nice.

Does the Rascal have a hatch for the battery or do you have to remove the wing? A picture would sure be nice.

Red,

I note that you have used 4SA123 packs in your Telemaster Elektro and several other 0.40 size conversiona. I assume these are all 2P configurations? I just bought a Telemaster Elektro and am building my own packs from DeWalt M1's. My question: Is it better to hard wire the parallel packs together and make one integral pack or two 4S1P packs and join them with a parallel adapter in the plane? Is there any difference in efficiiency charging, or in balancing the individual cells if I charge/balance the packs separately or as a unit?

Paul K.
