Well after 4 years of hard flying my old Kougar is just
about had it. I got it 2nd hand and the previous owner
built it about 20 years ago and wore out two motors on it.
Lots of abuse over the years. The fuse is warped and she
just doesnt quite fly right any more.

So Im looking for a new plane to replace it with.
My general requirements are:

1. Flies fast but stable.

2. good aerobat

3. Swept wings like the Kougar.

4. Good match for GMS 47

5. Currently available kit. No ARFs. I will consider scratch building from plans.

Yes I realize the perfect match for my needs is another Kougar.
And I have a Kougar kit on the shelf. But Im looking around for
something a little different that still flies as well as the Kougar.

Just looking for some ideas here. I already have an Ultra Sport 60
and a Super Kaos 40 and have flown a number of Super Sportsters
so am not considering any of those.

I think your toughest point is the swept wings. I have a kit-built Goldberg Tiger II with a Thunder Tiger .46 and it is a beautiful flyer. I'm switching to electrics and this and a Cub are my only fuelies left. It may not have swept wings, but it's fast, grooves well, and is a blast to fly. The TT.46 has a lot to do with this. Another problem, I know they are now available as ARF's, and I don't know if they are still available as a full-build kit.

Thats pretty much why I posted the question. I cant come up
with anything that has swept wings like the Kougar. So I
thought I would tap the knowledge base out there.

As far as the Goldberg Tiger is concerned I have flown one
before and it is a good flyer and IS still available as a kit
but not really what Im looking for.

Thanks for the input...

You might want to consider the Bridi Vagabond. Wing is tapered, but not really swept. I think it is available from a company with a name similar to Blue Bird models. There are some build threads on RCU. I have had two and have a third kit in my "stash."

Look on fleabay for a GP Patriot kit, not the ARF but the old .40 size kit I see them on there once and a while and it would fly great with your GMS .47! Another option would be a King Kobra, much like a Kougar but a little bigger. Although, you might have to go with a bigger motor. A GMS .61 is only $79.95 from Tower, or the .76 is $99.99. Just a suggestion...

Im familiar with the Vagabond. Another member of our club has one.
Its pretty much just a Kaos with a turtle deck on it. Not enough
different from the Super Kaos I already have.

BTW its Bluejay Airplane kits.

And old Patriot would be nice. But finding one at a reasonable price
would be difficult.

I do have a King Kobra kit on the shelf. And that might be my fallback option.
I would probably go with a Tower 75 on it. But I want to investigate some
other 40 size options first. I have plenty of time to decide as it will be
a project for this coming "building season" (winter)

Thanks for the input...

I have thought about a Juno F-20. Ive flown a Direct Connection
F-20 before and while its plenty fast it doesnt have that all around
great flyability of the Kougar.

Ive also considered the Juno Tsunami.

Keep em coming...

If you don't mind scratch building you could scale down the UFO plans to, say, 52"-54" and you'd have a fast, swept wing bird.

Ive kind of always liked the looks of the Tracer but didnt
consider it since it was discontinued. But now that Great Planes
is bringing the Tracer back (as well as the Super Sportsters
and Ultra Sports) this is a definite possibility. This will go
on my list. Thanks...

Well if you look at my original post I said:

"Yes I realize the perfect match for my needs is another Kougar.
And I have a Kougar kit on the shelf. But Im looking around for
something a little different that still flies as well as the Kougar."

So while I may end up building another Kougar the purpose of
this thread was to explore what the other possibilities might be.

Great Planes is releasing the Ultra Sport 40 and 60 in kit form again. The Ultra Sport 40 would fly well with the engine you have. The wings are tapered but not swept. The performance of the Ultra Sport will be similar to or better than the Kougar.

Stacking the ribs on the trailing edge of the wing of the US 40 would not be a problem and would fly just as well. Bluejay models Dirty Birdy 60?
