I have a simjet 2300 autostart which last flew in 2002. The ECU has a gold anodised aluminium case.
Unfortunately I have misplaced the manual for this engine and I can not remember the setup or startup proceedure. It uses the control panel with switch and 3 led's so I assume it is the same as the later engines.
I remember the fuel solenoid was a 3 way valve and there was a certain way to plumb it. I also need to know how many cells in the ECU battery.

I have also considered using another ECU with this engine but it uses hall effect sensor for rpm and an internal thermocouple.

Can anyone please advise.

Regards

Arthur

Hello Arthur,

Looks like CARS II will help with the manual. It is a very simple set-up.

I wish to advise that you run the fuel pump independently PRIOR to running it with your engine to insure its working properly after all this time as it is common for the pump shaft O-ring to "seat" onto the motor shaft preventing it from rotating at the low input voltages during the start cycle.

DO NOT RUN THE PUMP DRY. Connect tubing to the inlet and out let and place a small amount of fuel in a bowl and place a flashlight battery (1.2vdc) across the leads of the pump and run fuel thru the pump in this manner until you hear the pump run at a consistent RPM and smoothly. You then can connect it to the turbine system.

Be sure to check all your filters.

One last item, do not attempt a start with the ECU battery voltage less than 10.3 volts. (9.8vdc x 1200ma to 1800ma battery pack)

Please advise if you have any additional needs.

Thanks guys,

The ECU is the older than the one shown in your manual CarsII, however the led sequence seems the same.

The engine started and spooled up on the first attempt. The idle seemed a little high and there is also a hotspot when looking into the turbine wheel at the 2 o'clock position.

I have no way of telling what any of the parameters are as there is no read out, It looks like I may have to change the ECU to a more modern system to allow a read out to be added.

regards

Arthur

Arthur,

You are correct. You would need to update the ECU to at least a 2002-D2 SIMJET ECU and purchase a IRDT terminal and new 20 pin ECU cable with IRDT connection to obtain readout capanbility. [ECU that is IRDT ready - $250 + IRDT terminal $245.00 + $15 cable ]

Howebever, these costs would be comparable to purchsing a new GASPR ECU W/ Data Terminal and retrofit. $500.00 > $550.
