Posted this over at RCgroups as well, it flies so good and is so cheap I figured I'd post it here also.

I was at our local Winco Super Market a couple days ago and noticed a box of foam gliders for sale for $4.49. It looked like a great RC conversion project so I bought one and my father and I built it up. We cut the nose off a few inches back and made a ply firewall with a stick mount for the motor. The motor is a small brushless we had laying around and we used a folding prop. Controls are ailerons/elevator. We just cut the controls into the wings ect and used 3M Blendurm for hinge tape. We also installed a couple carbon rods to stiffen up the horizontal and the wings. We installed packing tape on the leading edges for protection on landings and to hold the wiring. With all electronics (minus battery) it weights 13.25oz.

Got a chance to maiden it a few days ago, man this thing flies great! I have about 15 flights on it so far and even managed to get in some thermal action with it. Climbs like crazy with the small 2408-21 brushless on it. We are going to start building another one soon with numerous improvements, IE: all wiring will be embedded in the foam, carbon fiber embedded, balsa control surfaces, ect. It's a kick in the butt and you just can't beat the price!

If you build one post up some pics to this thread.

Here's a link to a short video of the maiden: I had the rates set pretty high so I made a short flight and then lowered the rates. After that it flew great!

Nice job! I've seen toystore gliders converted to r/c before, but I like the looks of this particular one better. Looks pretty responsive in that video, too!

Looks like it flew very well. Congrats.

You sparked my interest enough to look for the glider at the New Winco store on Hiway 4 in Vancouver, and could not find one. What section of the store did you find yours located in? I have a couple of 0.049 Cox engines that would work well on these models. Get back to me when time permits. I am still locked into planting seeds in the garden plots.

Your conversion is a lot prettier than mine was. They do fly remarkably well. I powered mine with a Cox product engine with a 1 oz fuel tank and an old Tower radio. I was lugging around standard servos. I didn't add a spar and the wing flapped with every pitch change. Great fun and cheap.
