Yellow Spitfire gas engine choice??? - 2/22/2002 8:30:04 AM

Status: offline 		Guys, I know someone out there has a good flying Yellow Spit with a gas engine in it. I am building a couple of these Spitfires and would like to know which engine choices are now available. I was leaning toward the G-45 but it really looks bad with all that motor sticking out below the cowl, is there a better choice??? Thank you in advance. Les

Status: offline 		If your after asthetics, one of the rear intake 3W engines would fit the bill nicely. The Spits narrow cowl restricts the engine choice if you want to maintain the looks. Other alternatives would be a big glow engine such as a Moki, but then you would have to get an equity loan to buy fuel for it.

Status: offline 		I'm installing a G45 in mine. The trick is to angle the motor to one side viewing from the front. More of the motor fits in the cowl. It looks to me like just the top of the head will stick out along with the spark plug. The carb even stays inside.

My RCS 1.8 fits entirely in the cowl.

A moki 2.1 does also.

Another fellow locally is working on one with a Brison or sachs derivative gas burner around a 3.0 and he is having a prop extension machined and moving the firewall.

Status: offline 		Waine Seiwert @ Aerotec Models in Twin Cities, Mn has a new GAS engine he uses in his 1/6 scale p-51 Mustang. It was engineered to fit completely in the cowl...More power than Moki 2.1 and it even has a tuned pipe with the exhaust coming out of the doghouse... Alleymutt out

Status: offline 		Thank you for all the e-mail on this subject. I think the engines will be ZDZ or 3-W, this seems to be the engine selection most are using due to cost and fit with reliable operation. Les
