thx for that.................as a long time free flighter, i surely appreciate the shots..............the modern high thrust bird at the end shows how much things changed when going from ignition planes in terms of wieght..........sorta hung there while the ignition jobs just pretty much fell out of the sky back then when there was no thermal activity.

Neat, neat, neat! For those of you who have not flown free flight, the Vector Director popped the stab and dethermalized. Notice that none of the other airplanes did so.

Thanks Mark! The Tomboy had be a bit nervous with it's straight-out climb, but it circled fine in the glide.

The Stardust Special lost a bit with that transition stall but then ended up having the prettiest glide of them all.

I really enjoyed watching that.

Thanks for a nice video. As an old time free-flighter for over 40 years, I can sure associate with those guys. I gave up free-flight when I got too old to chase after them, but still have several in storage. I have a 1/2 A - Zipper "A" hanging in my office - last flown in 1971 at the Chicago Nats.

Thanks guys.

The Vector Director popped it's DT near the end of the flight thus the sudden stall and landing.
I have not been able to dig out much info about it, but it is on our vintage plans listing which has a cutoff date of 1961, so I suspect it may have just made it onto the list.

I still need to "peak out" the engine on my Stardust Special which should give it a better climb and transition - but the engine dropped out just at the wrong time on that particular flight.

The Tomboy (and Bruce) are a club wonder. It does not matter which way the wind is blowing, or which direction Bruce launches - that Tomboy ALWAYS heads for the trees. It seems to pick a bunch of trees at random and head straight for them.

Bruce probably go's hunting for it about 4 out of every 5 flights! That particular flight was an obvious anomaly as it decided to turn after the engine cut.
We all declared it was looking for a larger tree to sit in!

Sunday was a beaut day and we had a few great long flights ( I cut the videos short) but normally due to the trees and fences etc we have to rely on short engine runs, short DT's and nice tight turns.

Thanks Mark,

Nothing prettier than an antique FF against a blue sky.

A real treat! Thanks

I'm still trying to figure out how these airplanes missed all the trees and wire fences. Mine used to find them with great regularity!
