Hello Guys!

I have a little situation that Im hoping to get some golden advice from here in this forum.

I was contracted to do a 6th scale, scale helicopter plug for a future kit, for an individual, who unfortunately went bankrupt. Im now left with this project, and am considering developing it as a kit myself. The problem is, I'm a jet guy and confess to not being up to snuff on making helo kits.
At this point, my biggest concern is making the blades. in making the plug blades,I used wood, but for the kit, I want to provide composite blades. Im well versed with composites, however, Ive not done anything as critical as a helicopter blade. Im wondering If someone can point me to any tutorials that deal specifically with composite blade making, blade loading fabric directional lay, that type of thing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Bela

actually, what it seems most vendors do is make the kit to fit certain sized mechanics and then the person putting the kit together buys the correct size mechanics and blades and so on from a manufacturer of those parts.....

I'm sure someone will come along with more accurate info...

you might try looking at some power generating wind turbines sites for tutorials on blade load, tip speed, tsr, ect ect they have lots of good info, and once you get that figured out you could probably translate it into a heli application fairly quickly. I'm not really too familiar with any that are specifically for heli's though.

Bela most of us have our favorite blade makers and different mechanics use different style blades so unless you plan on providing the complete helicopter instead of just the scale fuselage I wouldn't worry too much about making blades, they are a science unto themselves.

If you really want to learn about blade making I suggest contacting Vic Cambell http://www.vblades.com

I'd be interested in hearing more about the project though.

How large is that bugger? I realize you said 1/6th scale, but I'm afraid I don't have the specs handy for an Apache.

A 1/6 scale Jet Ranger is 68" long so somewhere around 6 foot.

Dude that is BAD BAD BAD!

Ooph! Yeah, I'm afraid that after nearly being done in by a set of 800mm carbons, I'm not too keen on large helis. That doesn't mean I can't appreciate the beauty of them, however. Should be quite the looker, good luck!

Ummmmm not exactly. The full scale apache is about 58 feet, rotors turning. My model is 116 inches long, or 9 feet 6 inches. the fuselage itself is 8 feet.
Now you see why off the shelf parts wont work.
