No wonder I could'nt sell mine for $300 - thats OK - I'm gonna keep it, picked up a ZDZ 50 for it this weekend, servo's and Duralites coming.... is anybody coming out tail heavy with the servo's in the back?

Wish I'd have done that or the DA. Because the carb sticks out the side on the BME I've got to cut a hole in the cowl. Man, I am not happy about that.

Good question on the tail weight issue.

Where are you guys putting your flight and engine packs with your setups?

Is 6 1/2" still the "magic" spot? Is that IMAC C. G., or 3D C.G.?

    Any "long term reports"?

    Thanks,

    Scott

I would also like to know how you guys are hingeing the flight surfaces - I sure don't like the CA hinges that are in the kit, anybody using the Robart hinge points or better CA hinges??

I am thinking about getting the 80inch Cap232 ARF, and I would like some opinions about it and about the other things ive got to say. The Cap that I am going to buy is technically "not used" but has been purchased and put together by someone else, (a friend of mine). He has built the airplane and has done an "OK" job. He went ahead and drilled the motor holes for the motor but they are off center quite a bit! He drilled the motor holes for a BME44 but like I said was way off. Depending on how far off it is I can fix it but what I want to know is if the airplane is put together poorly, such as not glued that great and the motor puts off alot of vibration when running would it beable to shake the airplane apart? I know that the wing and whatever would fall off because of not being glued together and stuff but is this airplane built well enough that it can stand the vibration of the motor well enough to not start to crack the wood in the wings? I have seen where a motor at idle, will make the wood in the wing crack. I have heard really good things about this airplane but I would like a few more opinions before I go ahead and buy this airplane. (By the way this airplane is $275 from the guy im buying it from).

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Theres an Experation date for every airplane, it just doesnt show it!

I used all Steel Hinge Points on mine. I kind of over did the amounts. I used the 3/16" SHP (Robart #308) with 7 on each aileron 5 on each elevator and rudder.

Make sure you get the drill jig ( Robart #319 gives both size mandrels) and do a search on RCU for tips on how to get everything lined up. The beveled surfaces where very dificult to get perfect.

Be very patient and make sure everything is straight. The surface should flop up and down on it's own weight.

I used white glue and then tried real hard to pull the first ones back out to check the strength. WOW! they hold real well!

I can't emphasis enough to make sure everything lines up perfectly.

This is my first time using them and I haven't finished the plane. I can't tell you anything about durability. Hopefully someone else will jump in.

    Best of luck,

    Scott

Drill out the holes to an appropriate dowel size like 1/4" and glue in hardwood dowels. Cut off and sand flush. This thing will hold as well as any other arf, I'm sure a certain percentage of all products fail.

I'm using a ZDZ40 and have my flight pack right about where the throttle servo is. My CG is at about 6.5 with 2 JR 8411 w/ metal arms and titanium prolinks. I did switch the wheel on my sulivan tail wheel for a light foam one. CG seams to be about perfect. As far as hinges I was going to use robarts but was concerned that there would not be enough wood on both the ailerons and the wing root to really secure them. I went with GreatPlanes pinned hinges. I also doubled up on them on each control surface. (7 @ aileron, 5 @ elevator, 5 on rudder. Seems very secure.

Fishgod, After looking at the surfaces I see what you mean - I also don't think it would look right if you did the dowels on the leding edges. I think I'll get some Radio South CA Hinges

Am thinking of getting one of these, especially at the price from Chief. Surprised H9 is already ending production on these. For those who already have one and have been flying it, is there something wrong that I'm missing in the previous posts? Thanks for the info.

Everything I've heard about this plane is positive except for one thing. The one piece wing. Maybe they are going to introduce another cap of similar size that has a two piece wing. To me the wing is a non issue as long as the quality is there and the plane performs well.

Well I'm glad I went with the CA hinges, I drilled a small hole in the TE of the wing and all that is there is some 3/8" stock - was'nt even enough to grab the first barb on a Robart hinge - I used some GP hinge stock cut them 1" x 1.25" and put extra hinges on the wing (7per side) - gonna use extras on all the surfaces, I think H9 kinda skimped in this area....

Someone else said the same thing. He said that he sent his wing back and Horizon sent out a new one.

One of the "extra" things I did was use the balsa stick from the tail to reinforce the rudder servo tray. Made it a whole lot stiffer.

I am also pinning the the vertical fin post that sticks down the fuselage. And I cut the covering from under the vertical fin on the fuse to make a better "wood to wood" glue joint.

Anybody take pictures of the construction phase?

    Any in flight video?

    Happy flying!

    Scott

Has anybody mounted a da 50 with a bisson wrap around muffler. Did you have to do any mods to the bottom of the fire wall. Not sure if it will clear the angled part at the bottom.
