I like your pan tilt setup you have here. Do you have any drawings / plans you would be willing to share?

Thanks

Its been trial and error so far, but I guess I could
draw something up to illustrate the process I
went through.

Thanks for your interest!

It looks like you mounted two servos perpendicular correct? I would probably end up on trial and error myself. I was just curious about the brackets you made mainly. I think it's a great idea and saves on maneuvering too I bet.

Yep, one X axis, one Y.
The cool part is I modified the left/right servo to go 180 degrees.
Its a Futaba S148, follow this link:
http://mypage.yhti.net/~dmcdnld/s148retract.htm
180 degree fully propo, 60 degree up/down!(standard servo)

Actually the brackets are from Servocity
http://www.servocity.com/ServoCity/Products/Servo_Mounts/servo_mounts.html

About halfway down the page is the XY mount.
This works really well, especially when the camera
operator knows what theyre doing! I have a separate
receiver on board on a seperate channel, the camera guy
uses a separate transmitter standing in front of a TV/VCR
combo. I fly the plane, he moves the camera!

Does the camera transmitter have the X and Y on Ch 1 and 2?
How about vibration from the motor? with the GPS overlay this looks like a great police surveillance plane, maybe go looking for illegal pot fields ect?!?!

Actually, two and four, had to go look.

Engine vibration affected the video transmitter
oddly enough, Ive got an OS 46FX with
a MACS muffler, a little overkill cause its
turning 13k. After reviewing one of
Cyberflyer's early videos, he suffered horrible
lines in the downlink, said it was vibration, he
had the same camera and video xmitter I do
now. Some foam corrected it.

Now though, when making a hard bank, air
pushes on the camera's face and tries to turn
it, drove the camera operator nuts
so I try to make more rudder assisted turns
instead of yanking and banking!

Get that camera board covered up! Any moisture on it like condensation, fuel residue etc. will RUIN it! And if your flying via camera instead of looking at your plane, then when your camera goes out, YOUR PLANE BITES THE DUST!!!

Regards,
Bryan

Thanks for the input.

I dont dare try flying via camera only, as I said above,
I have a separate person operating the camera.

Thanks

Have you actually gotten some video using this system yet? I purchased the same pan/tilt setup from Servo City to use with a similar 900mhz system I bought from SuperCircuits. Using my 9C I put the pan on channel 7 and the tilt on channel 8 using the variable slider switchs on the sides of the 9C. Neat feature is the center "beep" so you know where center is without looking at the tx. It seemed to me, tho, that the setup was going to be a bit spindly and suffer from vibration a LOT not to mention wind resistance. My mounting setup is similar to yours but mine is installed in the wing next to the fuse on my Kadet Sr ARF.
Anyway, how did the video turn out?

As good as the idea was for the pan/tilt setup, I never got used
to other people operating the camera while I flew, they never seemed to keep the camera on what you wanted to, to prove the effectiveness of the setup, being able to follow objects on the ground. Basically Im saying good help is hard to find, and if you want it done right....put all the controls on your own transmitter!
Then I also realized is all I wanted was tilt. So I built a box for the camera and mounted it on the side of the fuse to a servo. Its on CH 5 (Landing gear) and I have it normally pointed forward and flip the gear switch down when Im over something interesting, then flip it back up to land.
Im building another airplane, everything but the wing is scratch.
Trust me, itll be better than the Kadet LT40!!

Very similar to what I ended up with for pan although I plan to add a second servo to the fuse for tilt. Havent completely given up on the pan/tilt tho. Think I need to use dual BB high torque servos for the pan at least.
