Yes, they work good and will save some bucks over alkalines.

Are you talking about the RX or TX? If you are talking about the RX (Receiver) then I would say yes use rechargable batteries, a 5 cell 6 volt pack of at least 1200mah. In the long run it will be cheaper and the pack will last longer and provide more power to your servos. I use a 2300 mah pack because I have powerful digital servos (power hungry) and I want to be sure I finish the race. For a TX (Transmitter) I would also use rechargables for the same reason.
