Hello all ya'll giant rc pilots I need help......I have been flying rc planes for several years. I have 34 planes and 1/2 of my right thumb so I don't consider myself as a newby. But maybe I still am. I traded for a 1/2 built airplane and don't have a clue what it is. I think it is a 28% Edge 540 but I have been wrong before......My trouble is I have never owned a plane like this one....I think it needs a 60-75 cc engine. I have a 65cc homelite chain saw that I would love to tear apart and build as a aircraft engine. Maybe then I would not have to use it to cut wood this winter....lol... Anyway... This plane has a 87 in wingspan. The fuse is 10 in wide and 72 in long from the prop to the end of the rudder. I have heard of people useing two 6 volt batterys but how would you hook them up? What size servos and how many? What is the best way to hook up a kill switch? What kind of kill swich? Heck I don't even know what size tires to put on her. Also what size prop. Well I guess I just ansured myself ....I guess I am a newby after all...lol Any help would be nice then maybe I could go to sleep at night with out having all these questions running threw my head....

Find one at your club that owns one, or ask the most experienced person in the club. If you have 34 planes surely you have learned something about setup.

Hi,

You said you have got 32 planes What kind or type of planes where that?

I think the plane you have on the pics is a Extra 330L but i am not 100% sure.

I think a 330L is a low wing

redceser, I have just took inventory of my planes and set here for over a hour typing all of them down and numbering them for you but when I hit OK it said it went threw but I don't know where. I even sent pictures. I have 48 planes not 34 . Sorry but my fingers are tired. I will try to send pictures and list later.

I May Be Wrong But I Think That's A Ohio RC Extra 300. The 87" Wingspan Fits And So Does The 2 Place Canopy As Does The Shoulder Wing Design. Always Preferred The Original 300 To All Of The Other Extras.

It looks like an 87" Extra to me as well but, whether it is an Extra, Edge, or whatever probably will not matter much in the end.

At 87" (I have a Yak54 that size) the plane is in the 50 - 65 cc range.
There are some very nice commercially built shutoffs that use a fiber-optic connection to the ignition module. Many people also install a servo on the choke and use that as an emergency shut-off.
I run my Yak with 2 Hitec 5645 servos on the ailerons (1 on each surface), 2 Hitec 5645 servos on the elevator (1 on each elev half), and 1 Hitec 5955TG on the Rudder (in a pull-pull cable system).
I run a 2-cell 1500mah Li-Po battery with a 5v regulator for the ignition and a 2-cell 2900 mah Li-Ion (with a 6.0 v regulator) on the receiver. I do not use dual batteries on planes of this size but many people do. If you choose to do so, I believe that you just plug the second battery into an un-used port on your receiver.
The plane will probably use 3-1/2" or 4" wheels.
Prop choice will be dependent upon your choice of engine, your flying style, your altitude, your finished airplane weight, etc. Most people flying 50cc motors are in the 22-8 / 22-10 range. My 69cc motor turns a 24-10. You can get prop advice from anyone who sells big motors.
You can complicate things greatly if you wish but I have always believed that a simple, well-maintained system (batteries, switches, servos, etc) is less prone to failure than one that is over-complicated with too much electronics.

Fromeco is a great company and has all of that electrical stuff that you might need.
Don's Hobby shop in Kansas is a wonderful resource for information about big airplanes. He is very knowledgeable and very patient with newcomers.
