Is it just me or did we all take a left back there instead of a right??

Lets face it, if you dip a rotor in the water spray is going to be the last of your worries, finding the heli is going to come pretty high on the list though.

what in the lake or to start with, lol, does anyone have a ROUGH idea of what it costs to get a heli flyin, I am thinking 30 size, I dont plan on doing Stick banging 3d, maybe a few rolls, loops.... (SIMPLE STUFF), so, no "hyper fast servos".... and I don't plan on running 2.4 (at the moment), so, anyone got a ROUGH idea , ok, I take back my comments about landing on a lake, noob questions

About $1200 calv

That is the low end to get flying with no mods

$300 for heli
$200 for Tx/Rx
$300-400 for servos
$140 gyro
$200 for motor

You also need field gear as well.

Approx prices for lowend feild gear.
Starter- $29.00
Starter shaft-$15.00
Fuel Pump- $15.00
Fueling plumbing-$15.00
Expanded scale volt meter-$25.00?
Glow starter-$15.00

Yes you need a Heli specific engine
OS 50 Hyper $185.00
If you are serious buy a quality radio (will grow with you) and use the servos that come with it. I would skip on buying used, unless it is a good buy.
You can spend $2000 very easily if you are staring with no RC equipment. I am a firm beliver in buy quality buy once!

prob nothing "spectacular" but I did get to do some forwards flight and landing a heli (safely) in a sim

You can leave the 4 channel radio and micro servos on the pile, or try to sell them for $$$ for usable helicopter gear. There is always an ongoing debate when it comes to the 30vs50. I had a 30 for my 1st if I had known any better I would have gotten a 50. My OPINION is just buy the 50. The intitial cost is not that much more anyway and crash replacement excluding blades are the same. There are some very good combo deals at Heliproz.com.

A 50 is a bit easier to fly, they are more stable in a hover less twitchy. They are the same basic size though (30 has a shorter boom) so "veiwing" will be the same.
What brand and # servo are you looking to get repaired?

um, Hitec HSC-5996TG (2), i was going to give them to a friend for his truck, but, they turned out not to work, I have another servo (lying around here somewhere) with a dirt pot, I believe and i think it could be used as a throttle servo??????

You can buy a standard JR or Futaba servo (good for throttle) For less than $20.00 new. So why mess with a used (questionable) servo that may cause an expensive, and or dangerous crash? You are basically equipping an inverted flying lawn mower, so make sure to use all quality gear.

You need to join club a with a designated flying feild. See if you can find one with heli pilots. You are going to need help with proper setup and you first flights. I am the only heli guy at my club, but in you area I would guess it should be easy to find other heli guys.
