The rustler and the stampede are the same thing it's just that the stampede is higher and has a little differant chassis. So its really up two you if you want a monster truck or a stadiom truck. And for a battery go and get a gp3300 of some sort.

the stapede is the better basher cuz of its hight, the rustler handles better, even though its a tank. both are very durable. it really depends what you want to do with it. are you going to bash in rougher services then i say stampede, but if your bashing is a little smoother then i say rustler.

If you like jumping, go with the stamede. If you mainly like to do some high speed passes, go with the rustler. Both are excellent jumpers once you get the hang of it.

My stampede has gone through quite a bit like jumping off of roofs on to the dirt, doing backflips with my Novak 7.5R brushless and only bent a shock shaft and broke a plastic turn buckle. My little brother's rustler is great for going fast with my Novak 7.5R and paddles on the beach. I haven't done that with my stampede because the chassis is a little narrow and I worry about alot of sand going into the electronics and stuff.

Whichever you go with, you won't really go wrong.

For batts, I'd say 4.4K Top Qualifier batts from maxamps.com. They're great buys and alot of power and runtime.

my rustler is mainly for street speed passes, and chasin Jato's,lol. I run 21/76,with a waterproof LRP 15t ESC, Venom 17t motor and surprisingly it works, lol. I was wonderin is there a best over-all roll-out number to look for. Hope this helps other Rustler street racers.

I don't know why your motor and ESC haven't had a melt down yet with that gearing, but DAAMN 21/78 is too tall for the Rustler running a 17T motor....

How hot does it get?? I used to run 15/90 with my 15t motor and that would heat it up to 160+ degrees F and that was on 6-cells nimh.....

I have an XL5 Rustler and an XL5 Stampede, I like them both, the tires on hte rustler wear down faster, the tires on the stampede are pretty tough. You really can't go wrong with either, but to chose... i would ask myself... will i ever run my truck on a track... if yes, get a rustler, if no, get a stampede.

I have a Rustler and my father has a Stampede, I would not get the Pede for jumping due it's high center of gravity, it likes to flip, the Rustler is more stable in that respect. I love the Rustler because it's easy to take to the local dirt track and stays fairly level during "flight". Although I would love a Pede as well, soley due to it's basher aspect, it can tackle higher terrain with it's higher clearance. But even though they are based off the same chassis, they are two completely different animals, the Rustler is a great stadium truck and the Stampede is a great monster truck. Both are tanks and built like rocks, meaning they'll take a beating and keep on bashin.

I love going through grass with my bl stampede. I can gun it and get impressive speeds and it'll look as though its wheelying through the grass at full throttle. It's great fun. When I run the 4.4k Top Qualifiers, I got monster run times sometimes can bash as long as 30 mins. I believe I get at least 20 mins of runtime with alot of power coming out from the batts.
