Hi Guys,

I have a new YS91 FZ in a Wm Zen90. Its a great combo although the engine just won't seem to run smooth at all just above idle.

I have probaly put approx 1 gallon of Cool power 15% through it and things don't seem to be improving ! I'm running a 13.5 x 10 prop.

After setting full power and then idle mixture all ok, the engine will run fine at these settings all day long. However, if I advance the throtttle by approx '4 clicks', it will begin to run erratic and then stop. It can be restarted immediately at idle.

I have the Full throttle needle at 3/4 turn out, the idle adustment at 1 turn out (out 4 lean and in 4 rich) and the regulator screw at just above flush.

Last weekend I spent alot of time very gently adjusting the idle mixture and the regulator screw by 1/8 turn increments, both in and out. The ONLY way I can keep it running, albeit slightly rough, is to have the idle mixture on the rich side. The way I know it is rich is when left at idle for 30 seconds and then quickly advanced to full, its slow top accelerate.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated ?

Many thanks and regards,

Rob W.

Sounds like the regulator is still set too lean. Open it up some more, and possibly lean the idle.

Thanks Dave,

We are heading in the right direction.

I flew the Zen on Sunday and actually had to shut the engine down before landing each time ! This has been a first for me and the YS. Normally the engine quits when turning on final and I land short.

The mixture adjustments are very sensitive - 1/8th turn increments.... I have been slowly turning the regulator out and the idle mixture leaner little by little and now the engine will nearly run through the full throttle range with hesitation.

If I have it about 4 clicks for too long, it will begin to mildy surge, although, i'm confident that I can adjust this out.

Its a pity the instructions which came with the engine weren't a little more detailed on the finese required with these adjustments. More importantly, actually mention the regulator may have to be adjusted for some engines.

YS are the probaly the most sophisticated 4 stroke on the market and should expect that their users could cope with these delicate adjustments.

Again, many thanks and regards,

Rob W.
