i just had an idea that im gonna try out. Instead of flipping the chassis to change the weight distribution, im gonna use the stock servo tray and flip it upside down and cut the guts out of it and use 18th scale batts in it. ill post up the results when i do that.

How's it going guys. I am new to this site but found all of your builds very interesting. I am a proud owner of a wheely king. I have extended the wheel base, locked the dif's, changed the esc, went with rockstar 2.2 bead locks, masher 2 tires, and an awesome LR3 Land Rover body donated by a new bright RC. I picked up some aluminum today to mount a servo on the front axle(ordered the servo from the local HS. I am putting the blue waterproof servo thats in the E-MAX. My question is what is you all's input on gearing,(spur and pinion).I still have the oem 27t . I will put some pic's up soon I am wiring headlight, brakelights, and off road lights with super bright led's wired is series to a switch and 2 9 volt batteries wired in parellel.

Thanks, I picked up a spur and pinion from my local HS. I got the size that HPI rec. in the part 1 crawler build. However they did not have the HPI parts so I went with another brand. But I was not sure of the pitch. I got the 48 pitch and when I tried to install them the motor would not go far enough down to get the correct mesh. Has anyone else had this problem? I know I can remove the motor and reem the hole out a little more. My question is, does the HPI parts listed in the HPI site fit without the need to do this? Thanks any response would be well taken.

Looks sweet ponyboy,
Nice ride. Has anyone upgraded their shocks yet. I was thinking of trying to find a set of piggybacks for mine. Unfortunatly I have not found a set with long enough throw. I have also seen some cool accessories like coolers, winchs, jacks,etc... on some builds but unsureas to where to find em, any idea? Thanks again and CRAWL ON.....

I reconfigured the WK (again) flipping the chassis back to stock , eliminating the battery box.

It now weighs 4 pounds with redrocks and no weight. Esc and rx and battery on the front end pretty much.

Hey guys got a quick question. I just got my wheely King and put an old SS5800 super sport brushless system in it. I kept the stock gearing. Its too fast for this thing so I'm just going to gear it down. I removed the rear brace to get more articulation out of the rear wheels and it works great. I get a clacking sound though? At first I thought I stripped the spur but its ok. Is it because the drivetrain is binding somehow without the rear brace? Does the crawler upgrade fix this? Any info would be helpful. thanks.

I can't see how the rear brace would have anything to do with it. Maybe a piece of sand in the teeth or gear inside axle or trans is broke.

Try holding the vehicle and rear tires so that nothing can move, now give it some throttle and see if the rear driveshaft moves when you hear the clicking noise. Do the same thing for the front tires and front driveshaft. If the front/rear driveshaft spun when you held the respective tires than that diff gear is stripped or starting to strip. If the gears are still in good condition you can shim them and they should last a while longer. If the driveshafts don't move and your spur is OK then you are hearing the internal slipper.

If everything checks out ok and you still here the noise then check to see if the pinion set screw is making contac with the spur gear. Also check the motor armature shaft end play is not moving enough that the set screw is being moved into the spur gear. If the armature is moving that much then your motor will need to be shimmed.

Dogman when you say try 32 pitch . Would you rec. a 15/96 set up? If not what ratio would you suggest? Thanks for any help.

teamstrc - looking good! Any plans for some smaller axle Cs? It looks like you could bring the top and bottom in about 3/16" and gain some ground clearance.

Hey guys I'm going to order some straight axles and housing from rc4wd

Do you think the Rock stomper tires are worth the money $60 set ? I thought I'd just order all at same time. Man this stuff adds up quick.

Guver,
Try Moab or Mashers first. Mashers work well star notch the foam. Also if you try using some playdough in between the cuts, thinly spread it gives some extra firmness and front end weight. If you compete check to see if legal first. Here is my LR3 Wheely King on a set of Mashers.
