i have noticed the wheely king becoming a popular new truck in the crawling world. there are many threads about questions about the WK. post pics, mods, questions and anything else about turning the WK into a crawler.

stock it cannot climb very well at all but with just a few easy mods it climbs like you wouldn't believe. what you have to do is lock the diffs, flip the axles, switch the tires side to side so the tread is backwards and extend the links and drive shafts. It is very easy and strait forward. I just got mine and I've done all these mods except extend the wb but I'll be doing that this weekend. Good luck with yours.

i also heard that if you remove some brace or something, you get a lot of articulation.

yup there is a rod brace that holds the two lower rear liknks togeather...If you remove it you get pretty good articulation stock...I didn't metion that because if you extend the links the brace will have to come off anyway.

I am thiking about picking one of theses up for crawling

I was lurking over at www.rccrawler.com and they have a section dedicated to these things. Lots of interesting custom parts and how to's.

How to make custom ladder bars(links) from arrow tubes.

Wolf, some people are using Tamiya Stays but my rod ends require something bigger, so I used 1/2" aluminum u-channel you can get at your local hardware or home improvement center.

i want to use my wk for some ocasional crawling but mostly as a basher. it doesnt really crawl good stock. i am thinking of locking the diffs but would this hurt the performance of the truck on everything else but crawling? what if i just locked the front or rear? also is there a way to have a limited slip diff?

Yes, your turning radius will greatly suffer. If you lock one diff and not the other it destroys the transmission[or so I've herd(never happened to me before)].Yes, If you use putty it locks the diffs but they will still slip if over torqued and your turning r will still suffer

is there a way to lock the diffs without hurting the turn radius or is it just something everybody without 4 wheel steering has to deal with?

last night i flipped the steering so the battery is now in the front. i crawls a lot better. if the diffs were locked, it would be an awsome crawler

Will the diffs in the wheely king hold oil? Or if filled with oil will it just leak all over the place?

I am asking that because why not put some 120,000wt (or heavier) silicone dff oil in there. Allow some diff action but not too much.

Newbie to crawlin' small scale, but anyone trashed the stock "ring and pinion" yet? Heard that there is an update for the WK to use a "steel" diff gearset. My rear one is toast. All I've modded is the lower links (front) and use of a brushless system and changed the electonics out for better gear. I've also weighted the chassis at different points to make a feeble attempt at lowering the "center point" of weight. Got a bunch of broken bricks, blocks, etc. to crawl on. Its alot of fun to do, but I'm just a little annoyed with the diff thing.

Im not sure if the diff will hold oil, but people are using silly putty to somewhat lock their diffs. Silly putty has a property in which it can be kneaded if moved slowly but wont knead when a quick force hits it (you can smash silly putty with a hammer). Putting silly putty in the diff allows the wheels to spin at different speeds when cornering but when there is a big difference in traction it somewhat locks it.

the diff will not hold oil. also silly putty after time will move to areas of the diff housing where there is open space(not in the gears) and will start to free spin again. tryed it in my clod crawler and my mt2(same diff as wk).
