Mine weighs about 11 lbs. Has smoke system. O.S. 120FS surpassIII W/pump. 5" wheels (no wheel liederhosen)
standard Hitec servos. 14x10 master airscrew "scimitar" prop. Fully sheeted wings. du-bro remote fuelng valves for glow and smoke.
Push-pull switches. Air-alert warnng beacon. 14 oz. fuel tank. 8 oz. smoke oil tank.
2- 1650mah ni-mh 6 volt batteries for reciever and smoke system.

Covered in Monocote.
Cowl and struts primered, painted with lustrecote, painted with finishng epoxy for fuel proofing.

Usng 20% nitro fuel.
Using "Super-Dri" aviation smoke oil.

Status: offline 		So .....here's a Skybolt story......About the 5th flight, I was starting to feel real comfortable and flew a little too long.....
On approach I ran out of fuel and barely made it over the trees at end of runway. Stalled so pointed her down and recovered. Made it to 4 feet above the deck and she stalled again. dropped 4 feet straight down like an elevator. Landed on all three wheels!!
But splayed that soft aluminum gear. No real damage. Bent it back and flew her again after I stopped shaking.

Spent over a year slowly building this one, so you can imagine how happy I was to keep her in one piece!!

I have a sullivan Skywriter and used the black hose for the hook up to the nipple on my muffler. It melts a hole through it every
3 flights. Any hose/line that is really heat resistant. my four-stroke muffler gets real hot it appears. Makes great smoke, but melts the smoke oil line.

Status: offline 		Minnflyer.......Super-dri aviation smoke oil. My O.S. 120 w/pump had a screw where the exaust pressure nipple would be.
So I installed a pressure nipple and feed the oil in at that point.

P.S. I'm considering soldering some copper tubing to nipple and extending the mounting point for black tubing about 3".
Maybe coil the tubing around exaust header then a long extension 4-5" out to plug black tubing into.
Do you think a preheater coil would make it smoke even better? It already smokes pretty darn good now.

That seems pretty heavy. I knew skybolts tended to build heavy but I didnt realize they were that heavy.

Status: offline 		Here's mine. A tad over 9 pounds, with lightening methods employed to reduce tail weight. Magnum 120, 15X8 MAS Classic. Fast freaking plane for a bipe! Pilot is 'Stewey' of Family Guy fame. Over a hundred flights on it now.

Status: offline 		Beautiful planes guys..........I thinnk mine is heavy due to the massive amounts of glue and epoxy I used. Added extra wood.
smoke system. and OS 120 four stroke weighs 2 lbs all by itself.

Here's a few of my Skybolt. Weighing in at 10.5lbs. Has a GMS .76 (yes, 2 stroke) swings 12x6 APC. No smoke. Completed May 2003. Great flying plane.

Status: offline 		I think I have the heaviest GP Skybolt at 12lbs dry, it had an OS 91 on it but it wasn't enough power so I'm going to put a YS 120 on it and see how it goes. If the 120 isn't enough I also have a YS 140L that I can try too.

I'll get some pictures of it this weekend.

I also have a Sig Skybolt that needs some repair but that will most likely be a winter project.

Murphy..........


She flys awesome! She weighs 8.5-9 lbs and performs well on a Saito 100. She'll weigh a little more after I'm done re-covering her since she's getting a smoke system! Some fuel/oil worked its way under the covering on the belly and on the bottom of the lower wing and I wound up replacing a lot of soaked wood. She'll be better than new when I'm done with her.

I first covered it with the yellow (Ultracote), and then put on the black sunburst pattern using low heat to keep the bubbles to a minimum. The checkerboard on the bottom of the wings and the rudder are pre-printed black/yellow Ultracote that Horizon Hobbies sells. I think you can even buy it with different size squares now, 1/2", 1" and even 2" squares.

Status: offline 		Minnflyer........I had that thought too. But unexplicably the heat from muffler melted it too. This makes no sense because the pressure nipple I installed is in the pretapped hole the non-pumped O.S.120 4-s uses.
I'm still running the engine a bit rich. Run 1 3/4 gallons of 20% through it so far.

Here is mine:

It has an Ys-110 and it´s plenty of power, but the plane in fact is heavy, I didn´t any lightening holes in tail and I had to add 150 gr lead in the nose... That was after the first flight, CG was wrong calculated and the plane was almost crazy but with some luck I landed without problem.

I have few flights with it, but except of weight it flyes very nice, I need some time with it to try some aerobatics...

I made some changes:

the original wing struts didin´t like to me so I decided to glue two plywood pieces to original ribs an fix the strut with two screws.
I use a pull-pull system in rudder, and also for the Katoh part that moves the split elevator.

In photos you can see that changes. I hope you like them.
