New Blades!
Mike at Spectrolutions asked me to check out these new blades they're making for the DF. They are milky/clear nylon, and Mike said they're stiffer than the black ones. I could detect only a slight difference in the stiffness, but they definitely were a bit straighter, did not curl up at the ends that the black ones, and most importantly they are very consistent in their shapes one to the next. I've noticed the black ones really vary, sometimes even the two ends of the same blade, but these clear ones were all perfectly straight. They cone up like the black ones do, and seem to be very stable. I don't know if it was just my imagination, but they seem to fly better. One thing for sure is they look really good in the air. I flew late in the evening and the blades completely disappeared against the sky.
This would be a really interesting product: they have tail rotor blades that glow brightly in the dark, and are charged by a UV LED mounted on the tail boom. Wouldn't it be nice to have clear rotors like these that would glow different colors for orientation at night!

I want a set NOW!
One thing that I have noticed is that the black blades sometimes hit the frame during some rapid movements. Have you noticed this with the older blades and if so, can you comment about the performance of the newer blades in this regard?

Hi Mike, I also noticed with the black blades when it was windy, you'd hear them clicking on the frames. I've only flown with these once so far and it was very calm, so I'll have to get more time on them. However, if they are a bit stiffer like Mike Dammar said, there should be less contact.

Just been to spectrosullutions site, no sign of these blades yet, any idea when they will be available, not keen on the bendly floppy bat wings i have currently attached!

Hi Dirk, The new blades are now available on the Spectrolutions web site, under DraganFlyer accessories. Mike Dammar says they are just a bit stiffer, and perhaps a bit more efficient. They're now got the blades in various colors, and a more complete line of other DF repair components as well.

I've flown the new blades quite a bit and haven't heard any clicking on the frames. However, the other blades only did it once in a while, usually when I was descending quickly and it was windy. I have no doubt the new blades are better, though. You can tell a slight difference in the stiffness, but the main difference I've seen is that they don't curl up on the ends as much.

I recently switched to the new blades and added the frame bracing kit, now i barely get 1 -2 minutes in the air compared to almost 10 mins. before on my V Ti. Are the original equipment pilots using 1320 Li batteries or have you moved to 2000mAh? Thanks and I'm glad i found this site.

I don't see how either of those changes would affect flight time. Maybe your battery's life is almost spent. The larger battery will last longer but mostly if you're just hovering. If you fly agressively or descend too fast and then give it throttle to recover, that added weight makes it work harder.

I know that I am still a newbie too, Sky, but what if he had put the A blades where the B blades go and vice versa?

I put the new blades on my V TI and never lost ANY flying time. I am still using the 1320 mah batteries that came with my unit. I bought an extra, so counting the video receiver battery, I have three that I rotate in flight use. All get something over or around ten minutes. I set the timer on the transmitter (ten minutes) and after the time alarm sounds I still have a few minutes to mess around before it gets to where I have to shut down. But I am NOT flying HIGH or HARD either....
As for the blade change, for *me* it was a MAJOR change in how the DF flies. It was like a totally different machine.

If that was the case, he wouldn't even get off the ground because there wouldn't be any lift.
Yes, Sky, exactly my point. Maybe he was beating the air so hard that he got no flight time. I understand the lift from the blades and reversing them shouldn't allow lift, but (as a newbie) I can not think of ANY reason that just changing blades and adding frame stiffeners would make a 90% drop in flight time(s).
And I *THOUGHT* (since I have one) the V TI came with all the frame stiffeners installed....? Mine did.....
