jonhall -> Should I keep an Exceed Extreme Buggy? (6/19/2007 7:27:20 PM)

I got an Exceed Extreme buggy for fathers day and have been told be a local hobby shop to ship it back before I open it and put a little more money in for a better brand. I am not looking to race but I also want something that will last and will take the abuse of learning. I also read and was told that the remote won't have much range and will loose control easily...is this true? Can you replace parts with more easily accessible parts?

My bottom line is should I send this back or is it worth the 180 bucks and will it last for running around my yard?

Thanks

Jon

SEND IT BACK.Those things arent worth $50.00, Durability is worse than any RC I have ever seen or owned in all my years in the hobby. If you bump it,its broke.Trust me,SEND IT BACK.Im speaking from experience.

Ok, go to allaboutfunhobbies.com and check out his buggys and trucks. The exceed is not worth 180.00, but if you sniff around enough you can get a nice bashing buggy for about 145.00 Hit me with a PM if you need more info. [:D]

I appreciate the replies.

after posting I began checking to see what it would take to get my money back since they say "100% satisfaction" but....if you read the fine print you loose 15% and you still don't get you money back...just an exchange. So I was going to loose almost 50 bucks after the 15% plus the high shipping cost they charged plus my cost of shipping it back so I decided to keep it and run it hard for a couple of weeks and see if any defects show up so I would have a better chance of sending it back for an exchange / upgrade (they had a few CEN trucks). So far it has run great. I have seen a lot of better deals on Ebay so if I really get into it and want to start racing I will keep this one for bashing and buy a better 1/8 scale off of ebay.

again, thanks for the replies.

Ok, here is an update on the buggy. I have run a half gallon of nitro through it already and the only problem I have had is when I broke the front tire mount. But. that was my fault completely. I was running it in a parking lot that was a little wet, I tried to make a turn running full out and the wet tire just didn't hook up. So, my front left tire clipped the curb at full speed and snapped the plastic and bent the chassis a little bit. I don't care what car I was driving I know that hit would have broke something...I was kinda of glad that part was plastic because instead of damaging something more expensive I only had to replace a 1.50 part. I ordered the part and in 3 days I had it back up and running. The car cranks like a champ, I haven't ever gotten out of range as long as my antenna is up and the car will fly even in thick grass(3 or 4 inches tall). Again thanks for the replies and so far I have been very happy. And for a 1/10 scale RC that doesn't cost an arm and a leg I would highly recommend these cars.

That's good to hear. You can't beat what you get for the price, there a great buggy to get a person into the hobby at a low cost so they can find out if they like the hobby or not. Hey if you have a hobby shop around some where they may have a nitro club, get into so you can meet others that run nitro cars makes it alot more fun to run with others than just your self, plus you get to learn tips and tricks from the old timers in the groups.

I have raced for 20 years, RC and Real! I am also a mechanical engineer and must say I have seen just about every car/truck made. China is where most of this stuff is made today,,,,,,might as well face it, your racing Chinese made cars bro! Granted, you have to keep an eye on they're QC, but they are very capable of manufacturing to high quality standards. The most important thing to remember is that the car almost NEVER wins the race! The driver and setup wins the race! I love taking my cheap VTX and cleaning up on guys with MUGEN's and LOSI's! I do own LOSI and have to say they are probably the best engineered of any car out there! Bottom line is,,,any 1/8th scale vehicle is overpowered for 99% of the tracks you will find, and usually the guy that stays upright and running the longest wins.........!!!!!!!!!!! Regardless of how much they paid for their car!
