They're definitely backward. Modifications look good so far though.

Good start to get us going on the M41, do you have any reference pics of a M41 with details of you mods that got you started? I have not seen any of these that you are doing and after looking at your pics I had to take a look at my stock Bulldog and what you are doing makes it look alot better. I needed something to get me started on this tank, thanks, and Skald is right the tracks do look like there reversed, show us more of your next mod.

Another Kiwi Bulldog! Great!

Any info you need, just ask.

I've just modded mine to move all the switches to the top under the drivers hatch. I'll post some pictures at the weekend.

Jo

first thing to do on any M41 is to shorten and re-position the drivers periscopes not to difficult and look 100% better
next was to cut off the headlamp guard and make some new thinner ones from plasti-card
next is to make the angle section attached to the guards
oh yes nearly forgot put tracks on the right way DOH

fv432, now I see where you are going with the front lights, good job, as soon as you said how you straitened the pariscopes I when to work on mine, was easy and now looks right, thanks for the tip

jom, looking forword to your pictures on the drivers hatch, I cut mine using the thread method but was not sure how I was going to hinge it, doing it to the Pershing was straight forword, but not as easy on the bulldog. I'm glad to see some modifying being done on the Bulldog, this has got me going on mine, Thanks guys

Here's some fuzzy pictures of the hatch and switch unit. I looked at using the rear engine covers to hide the switches but there isn't enough headroom at the back - so it has to be the driver's hatch, that's all there is!

After looking at various ways to support the switches around the speaker I eventually decided to build a bridge piece right across the tank chassis that incorporated the speaker as well.
The bridge is made from 1.5mm plastic card, the right hand side enclosing the speaker. I glued the speaker into a sealed box (at the back) to improve the sound and it seems crisper now. The speaker grille is cut from an old radio cassette grille.

The switches are on the other side of the bridge, along with the volume control. 3 switches, for on/off, smoke and lights. The lights switch is easy to do as the board wiring is right underneath. I switched the lights as it's impossible to hide in foliage with the engine off when the lights are flashing all the time!

The hatch is on a flat pivot - it swings sideways and runs on the pins that stick out of the front mantlet. When fully open it rests on the T shaped piece that also protrudes.

After I cut out the hatch (I used a jewellers saw - two actually, I needed a long yoked one for some of the cut) I used it as a template for a piece of 1.5mm plasticard which was glued back in the hole and reinforced from the back. When this was dry I pierced the hatch opening with drill holes and filed it out.
I filed the hatch down to the correct thickness, and to make it pivot thought about gluing a plastic rod to the underside. As it's handled every time you use the tank this probably wouldn't be strong enough, so I cut a piece of 0.5mm brass plate to match the hatch, drilled the pivot hole and soldered an M3 brass screw through the plate, afterwards cutting off the head so it left the plate with a flush top and a screw thread sticking downwards. I CA'd the hatch to the brass plate and used a spring (half a biro spring) and two nuts to secure it inside the tank. The spring helps to hold the hatch flush and also allows a bit of give for rough handling.

More pics at the weekend when I have some daylight.....

Hi Jom, Very clean, well done, I was not sure how the hatch opened and that is a very nice peice of work you did there, I think because of the location of the handle I thought it would swing the other way, but after seeing how you did yours and the idea of it resting on that post makes much better sense. Thanks for the tip, the speaker box and cool looking switches are also well done. then I cut my hatch I sliced it off horizontally, that did take some time and care to do.
