I use as much flap as possible usually about 80 - 85 degrees.

Thanks Kinverflyer, looks like I'll have to split the hinges and drill them out, as I only have about 30-35 degrees at most. Apart from that it's looking good.

Flap hinges drilled out and replaced, I now have all the flap movement I need on this plane. AUW with my MVVS26 up front is 17.lbs 14oz, 17oz of this is lead in the nose. My YT/KMP P47 with the same set-up is 15lbs and flies great with this motor, I'm worried that it might struggle a little at this weight. Forcast is good for tomorrow so time will tell.

Simon.

I have since swapped the heavy alloy tail-wheel with a light weight plastic jobby and moved my 3200 2s flight pack and 2200 2s ignition pack onto the firewall and was able to lose 11oz of nose lead.

Hello there Biggles, I have flown the Bearcat and found it vice free and a good performer, but I personally don't think it has the looks or presence of my beloved YT P47 Thunderbolt so it has been moved on to a new home and is going to be re-engined with a Laser 200 V-twin. I am glad that I experienced it as I would have always regretted not having one. The deal I got with the new owner actually included a Hanger 9 P47 150 which I will be fitting out with a 3W 40cc petrol jobby.

I'm looking a buying the KMP Bearcat. I read in an earlier post someone was going to power it with a ST2300. How did this pull the plane, I've a brand ew ST2300 in a box and thinking of using it.

bryant50,

Can you post some pics of the plane so we can see what the new color scheme really looks like? Wonder if there was any changes in the plane or is was just to color scheme only? Thanks.

I have a question about installing the wheel wells for the retracts. Can you see an outline on the bottom of the wing to show you where to cut the solartex and how well does the wheel wells match up to the wing. Any pics?

Well, I have been patiently waiting since Christmas 2008 for my retracts. I bought this plane from Chief.. and they are having lots of problems contacting Andrew. I really want to finish this plane. It is beautiful... I am powering it with a ccrc pro 40cc motor... fits nicely, and the nose weight will at least be useful. I am hearing rumors that Andrew is giving up the business... I hope I can get my gear resolved before he does... I, too, have asked Chief to either have KMP send me the gear or at least give me the diffrence so I can buy a different set. I see krisamu has had similar issues.. Has any one who bought a Retract included Bearcat (with no retracts in the box) gotten their stuff or a refund?
I really like this plane, and I have several KMP warbirds, and like them all. seems a shame that something like this gear issue has to tarnish their rep. 9 months is a long, long time to be waiting for backordered parts.

Corsaircrazy

I have the same issue, I was told by Chief they are working on it, Gus At KMP told me the China manufacturer is working hard to get me the retracts, it's been 11 1/2 months now, with the Bearcat stored, so I bought the Bearcat gear in Troy Built Models for $139, I think is Bull..... about the manufacturer bla bla, if so, how was I able to get the gear from TBM and they still have not supplied on to me?

I will call Chief as they charges me for something I did not received and try to get a credit or something before I take other actions, at the end I don't care if Andrew Kondor is not responding emails, a bought my Bearcat from Chief Aircraft not KMP, I wonder how is it that we have been so patient, Chief told me there is a list of people with the same issue.

By the way, the gear is nice, but it does not fit well as the angle with the wing cut out does not match, any body had this problem? what was done if so? this thread is too long to go over all the pages.

Regards

Hi.

I have an offer to by a ESM Bearcat with fibreglas wing, together with a saito 150, for a good price, but what I've read here, this engine might be a bit underpowered for this bird, the saito 150 engine is if I'm not misstaken in the line with a 26cc gas engine which some of you use?
2.5hp according to the specs, but will this be enough?
This is not yet ready to fly, some work needs to be done.

Hi Bhume, on the yt web site they recommend a 180 4stroke or a 26cc petrol, mine had a 26cc petrol and it performed very scale-like. I think a saito 150 would be adequate where as a 180 would be much better.

Simon.

Thanks Simon.

I'll give the 150 a go, if it is to week I'll put this in my TF P51 1/7 and get 180 or a 200 later on.

Happy new year to all of you flyers out there!

Patrik

DOES ANY ONE KNOW WHERE I CAN GET A COCKPIT KIT FOR A FAIR PRICE AND ALSO A SCALE PILOT? WE POST SOME PICS WHEN I CAN . ALSO THINKING ABOUT PUTTING A DL 55 FOR POWER...

Regard the flap movement on the F8F, some of you drill out and replaces the hinges to get more movement.
Is that really necessary?

What I've read about the F8F, it flights stable with flaps at 15 degrees in low speed, and lands on a carrier with flaps at 30 degrees.
If this scale model is anything like irl bird, the movement should be enough.

Anyone experience different landing stability with flaps on 30 or 85 degrees on this model?

Hi Bhumpe, I guess I would have had about 75-85% flap for landing as I like to come in on a fairly steep decent which is possible with this amount of flap, without building up too much speed. But you have to make sure you do not cut the power too early when you fair just before touch-down or you might stall.

Simon.

The one I built for a buddy flies great and lands fast. I think it has around 30-45 degrees max on the flaps. You can fly it under power or come in steep and flair at the last second. I don't think you want more that that as it would slow it down too much and it needs the lift and can't fly that slow. It's more like landing a jet than a prop plane IME. There's not much wing and it's a very heavy plane for the size of the wings.

My Hurricane is the opposite and needs lots of flap (80-90 degrees) as the wind generates lots of lift so you need to slow it down more like using air brakes. Very thick and large wing that provideds a ton of lift.

Well... its getting near the end of January 2010... 13 months and counting and still no retracts.... I really hoped we could work something out.... Looks like I will have to Pay Darrell full price for his killer retracts. Rats! Why Kondor is killing their reputation with this gear issue is beyond me.... I have a dauntless unbuilt, but this time I didnt buy the gear.... will go straight to Sierra
This is a real deal breaker.... too bad.
