From what I have seen most people make buildings from foam core insulation and trees from left over christmas decorations.

maybe some 'gauge 1' indoor scenery pieces for model trains? they are usually run outdoors because theyre huge, but theyre 1/22.5 or something and if you find something thats meant to be put indoors instead of the garden, i think it would go pretty well

or you could use the 1/87 or something scale trees and stuff , http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXRW28&P=7 , since theyre trees in various stages of growth and you cant see the leaves anyway, i dont think scale matters that much... but for buildings and stuff, maybe if you build them from scratch using basic stuff like cardboard etc , then look at http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0093p?&C=UPG to see how you can trick them out
