Hi, Please help???

My Hitech zebra 4 FM 40mhz is suffering massive interfearence if used with 10 or more other radios, ie when I'm trying to race.

The radio is 2 months old and seems to work fine with the supplied 40.695 crystals, until ten or more others join me.
I have another set of Hitech crystals 40.825 when I install these the model refuses to be controlled, it would seem that the Tx has only been callibrated to function on he supplied frequency. when i stand away from the other radios say about 80 feet the radio starts to behave it'self again and control returns at close range.

I have tried several forums looking for answers and there dosen't seem to be much info on Hitech zebra radios.
The reciever is and has been always dry I am using Hitech HS322 HD servos supplied with the set and a Zebra ZR-106SF micro reciever also supplied with the set, the aerial runs up the backstay of my sailing yacht, I am also using a sealed Rx Battery pack, I cannot understand the problem.
Do I need to return the radio to the shop? please help I am sadly missing races because of this problem.

kind Regards Nigel.

Your system is center tuned and should operate on all frequencies in the 40 Mhz band provided genuine Hitec crystals are being used (Crystal marked TX plugged into the TX and that marked RX should have a white tag with green band on tip plugged into the RX). Receiver is a very good unit so would look at possible sources of interference and with a crowd, try to isolate whether any one other TX is interfering. Were replacement crystals in genuine "Hitec AM/FM single conversion RX crystal" packets?, Have observed several large retail shops in UK erroneously advertising Futaba and other after market crystals as suitable for use with Htec and Zebra units. Other brand single conversion crystals may appear to work but no where near optimum performance. As per RC Groups sticky "what type of crystal do you need" Hitec crystals must be used in Hitec RX for optimum results. Futaba and other single conversion RX crystals may appear to work but with proven less range and glitching, especially noticeable in damp weather or wet ground. Local radio technician was surprised but ran a number of tests with result he is also now convinced that there is a significant difference in the crystals.
see also the crystal comparison chart from GWS and note regarding receivers under "Transmitter Crystals - Do not interchange - Berg Industries"
Much more regarding crystals is available under "Crystals, Oscilators & Piezo " on my web page.
see also "Radio Interference Primer " under sub section "Radio Systems, Accessories, Alterations and FAQ" as well as "Receiver - FAQ, guides and aids to best reception."
If above does not assist, suggest you return the system back to place of purchase for examination and or service.

Thanks Alan T.

The crystals I have did come with genuine hitec packaging and the green band you speak of is present but the Crystals are not marked RX and TX they are marked RF and TF which I thought a little strange for the UK even though they were packaged in a hitech package. i was wondering if these are german crystals and differ slightly in frequency maybe?

Sorry Nigel, typo relating to nomenclature of years ago. As per picture provided "RA" = AM/FM Receiver as does "RF" = FM/AM single conversion Receiver. Xtals with "RF" and a blue tipped tag are for Dual Conversion FM Receivers only and will not work in your receiver or any AM receivers. "TA = AM Transmitter and "TF" = FM Transmitter.
Selected quotes from "Precautions" on manual page 8: "
- Always turn your transmitter on first and off last.
- Never fly your airplane (operate boat/car) without first performing a proper range check.
- It's a good idea to check your receiver batteries with a tester like the Hitec
Power Mate II (part# 44110). This will verify the charge level in your receiver batteries.
- Make sure your frequency is clear before turning on your system. "

Your receiver incorporates an auto tune function and if tuned on first, it will attempt to tune and lock onto the closest nearby signal and be out of tune with your TX when it is powered up. As noted first precaution TX On First - Off Last (allow computer TX to complete initialisation before turning on RX).

Sorry Alan,

made a big maistake I didn't look properly The tx crystal has TF on it I gather this is TX FM
The Reciever Crystal Has RA on it with a green tag I gather this is the crystal in question.

The transmitters supplied crystal has TX engraved on it yet the label on the cartridge says TF perhaps this is a manufacturers mistake?
The transmitter works perfectly well with the supplied TX crystal as soon as I replace it with a different set marked TF this is when the problems start. I will have to talk to the UK distibutor on Monday Mornning.

regards Nigel.
