I have been flying my RCV CD 91 on a Goldberg Tiger for a couple of years now, and I just love this setup. No matter the weather, season, beginng or end, this is my "GO TO" airplane, the one I can count on at any time and I take it with me everytime I go to the field. But, sadly, all good things seem to come to an end.

I have been dealing with a loose muffler problem the last couple of time out and it seems the threads in the muffler or worn out. You can see the threads clearly, but there is not enough meat to catch on the exhaust pipe. Is there replacements avaliable? This problem can be easily fixed, But my biggest concern is a very high pitched whine that has started in the last couple of hours of operation. I have flown this engine alot and know it quite well, this sound is new, loud and quite noticeable. The motor seems to run just fine, but I am concerned that something is getting ready to fail internally. (Right in the middle of the season to!! Is there a service center that the motor can be sent to for a inspection/repair? I really like this motor and I dont want to see it get trashed for a minor problem that can be fixed before it turns into a major problem.

Hi

Sorry to hear you are having a problem with your engine. It sounds like the noise could be a bearing problem and we suggest you send your engine to our service centre in the US. BJ's Model Engine Service, 51 Hillside Dr., Beacon Falls, CT 06403
phone: 203-888-4819, email: wbilljensen@cs.com for inspection.

I hope this solves your problem.

Thank you and kind regards

Stephanie

I have a RCV 58CD with about one gallon of 10% Omega pink through it. Lately, upon starting, I notice a whine that soon disappears as the engine runs and apparently gains proper lubrication. Is this normal, or could I have a bearing issue so soon?

Hi

A slight whining noise on start up is quite normal on these engines due to the gearing timing. However if you are not happy with the engine and you mention this is a new noise, we would suggest you returned your engine to Bill Jenson - BJ's Model Engine Service, 51 Hillside Dr., Beacon Falls, CT 06403 phone: 203-888-4819, email: wbilljensen@cs.com for inspection.

Many thanks and kind regards

Stephanie

Hi Stephanie,

Thanks for responding to my inquiry. I assumed the whining was normal, since it disappeared after a few seconds, but I've had no experience with RCV engines---and little experience compared to others with model airplane engines.

No, I am becoming more and more pleased with the engine as it is run in. Hopefully, the longer run in period for this engine will pay off in the future.

I am quite surprised with the power this little 58CD generates and love the sound as compared to other "burping and gurgling" 4-strokes.

Steve
