i posted an add here on rcu. and had a guy email me about it. he said he didnt have an rcu accnt but would like to trade. so i figured i would trade if he shipped first. he agreed to ship first if i shipped once i go the tracking numbers... i agreed. i get his tracking numbers. head to fed-ex ship out my item. i got his box and it was full of newspaper.
i have emailed him a few hundred times with no respoce.
i was scamed a while back. not as bad though. i traded for a used car but when i got the car it was striped. missing motor and radio. and the car had to be rebuilt i basicly got a bag of parts. after a day of building i had a roller. but still not what i tradded for.
so now i do not ship first!!! im almost to the point were i will only do local trades.

I only "trade" locally or if we can meet face to face. Sorry to hear about your experience.

No trading here. I only ship AFTER the payment has been received. If it's a check - AFTER it clears. And, as always:

caveat emptor (let the buyer beware)
There's a sucker born every minute.
If it sounds too good to be true - it is.

I always use a US Postal Service Money Order it makes it easy to get my money back and hell hath no fury like a Postal Inspector. These guess are a cross between a Rotwielder with a tooth ache and an IRS agent with even less a sense of humor.

Sorry that happened to you but I also had to learn that lesson recently.
I paid by check for a Kadet Senior kit that was supposedly "new in box". When I received it, the box had one sheet of balsa, a piece of 3/4" plywood, three pushrods and a box of matches.
I tried contacting the seller for several weeks to no avail but when he finally replied, he offered to refund the
price as soon as I shipped it back. I did keep the matches.

Well, he gets it back, I don't hear from him again for a few more weeks and he finally contacts me saying he won't refund because the "box" was damaged.

Yep, this buyer is much more aware than before.

Good idea on using the USPS for shipping. Postal fraud is a FEDERAL offense and these guys take it seriously. Besides, on smaller packages, the USPS is cheaper and quicker than either FedEx or UPS.

Fortunately I have not been scammed in the way discussed here. (Although I Have been scammed a few times)
My big problem with this is; What kind of person would so blatantly cheat a fellow modeler of something worth only a few dollars???
I’m sorry to say I can understand someone robbing a bank better than I can understand someone cheating you out of something this trivial.
That is a sign of a true sociopath, and in my opinion true evil.
Their names should be posted anywhere practical on this site to keep others from being suckered into dealing with them.

I advertised my Double Vision here on RCU and for "local pickup only" I had many responses from modelers and the person that wound up purchasing it drove about 3 hours to get to my location and we sat around and drank soda's and discussed airplanes and building techniques for a long time. I made a new friend and one that I look forward to flying with in the future. If handled correctly, any trades or sales can have very positive results. If you do your homework and be honest and the rest will take care of itself.

It's buyer beware any time that you do business online whether it's in here or any other site. JWN tries to keep a good eye on the Marketplace but if you see anything that looks suspicious, report it if it's a buyer or seller. I wouldn't trust anyone on this site myself if they are not an active member of this site.
