Dean,
how does yours fly with the 1.80.?I didnt add too much of the scale details. wanted to keep it as light as possible. so it will be a real performer with the 1.80. I did add the robart retracts. i hope it flies as good as i hear most p-47s do.

Thanks Scorpion for the complements.

Skiice; I have been trying to solve a problem with radio reception so it has not flown yet. We finally solved it yesterday with a Hayes whip antenna. The model is covered with aluminum which blocks normal reception. Just to inform you i had a problem with fuel tank location and had to install a perry pump for 4 cycle engines. I hope to test fly next weekend. I have the Robart also and i'm closing the main doors with small air cylinders. I used Brian Taylor plans to build a scale retractable tail unit and i close the doors on that mechanically.

My Ziroli P-47, 70" w.s. is coming along. I have it framed and ready for final sanding and glassing. I am using Robart Retracts, Flaps, and G-38 Gas Motor. Looks like the weight will be around 16 pounds. I plan to finish it with latex house paint sprayed out of a touch up gun. I tries to keep weight down, but not sure I was was successful. I was looking at a target weight of 14.5 to 15 pounds. I will be back working on the P-47 in about two months, currently building a Hanger-9 CAP 232 ARF with Moki 1.8 Glow Engine.

Dean,
That is a GREAT looking P-47! Is this the same one that I have seen on the Flight Metal web site? Please tell me a little about your experience with Flight Metal. I have a Yellow Aircraft P-47 and I've been contemplating using Flight Metal, but I have several concerns.
1. radio problems. It sound like you are already experiencing these.
2. How much extra weight did the metal add to your P-47, let say over a painted finish?
3. How easy was the product to use?
4. Visibility in the air is another... but you wont know until you fly her.
5. Any advise for a first time user?
Your comments would be most appreciated. Thx

Hi Kregg; This is the same model that is on the flight metal site. If you use any kind of metal you will need a Hayes whip antenna which can be removed when transporting your model. I belive the metal added not quit a lb. to the frame. I built a Yellow P-47 about 5 or 6 years ago and used a metal finish on it . This was before flite metal i went to a auto parts place and bought out their supply of 6 inch aluminum rolls for patching autos. The fuse on your model will be easy to do as the panel lines are etched in the glass. Get some clear shelf paper which has a sticky back to it. Lay a piece on the panel and trace it with a fine pen. Lay the traced panel on the metal and cut it out carefully then carefully and accurately apply this to the panel . the adhesion is very strong so that if it is not centered properly you will have to use a heat gun to remove and recenter.Apply thr panels in the same sequence as full scale aircraft. On the wing you wil have to trace the panels after transfering from a 3 view. Use 1/32 chartpak tape and lay this on your tracings. Apply some filler type primer i use about 5 or 6 coats then after its dry pull the tape off and you will have panel lines to finish up covering the wing. Fiberglass the wing as you will need a hard surface to apply the metal. Use small sharpened brass tubes to apply revets Here is an image of my yellow P-47
