I have A Great Plains 60 Super Skybolt, With Os 1.08. I would like to cover it with a Mt. Dew scheme do you have any ideas on how to accomplish this task. Have you ever seen anyone with this scheme. Another Question is it possible to remove monocote from a plane or is it not worth the troble. Thanks for your time.

Status: offline 		Lots & lots & lots & lots of #11 blades. I was just at the Hobby Show here in Chicago, and bought a pack of 100. Just covering my J3 Cub, I've already used about 10 of them, and I'm not quite done yet. Monocote, Ultracote etc, dulls blades very fast.

Status: offline 		Just one #11 exacto blade for me. The trick here is to keep a sanding stone like setup by attaching 600 grit wet/dry paper to a flat block of wood etc.. While you're cutting, and the blade gets kind of dull (you know when that happens immediately) just sharpen your blade on the sandpaper. I've used the same blade cutting monokote for two complete airplanes and the blade is still in the knife. Saves lots of time and $$$$

Status: offline 		I cut some old chrome monocote this morning with a new blade and it was a little ragged. I assume that you cut it on a hard board to get a sharpe edge. I plan on getting this done.

Thanks for the tip! I'll give that a try.
uncle: I use a "self healing" cutting mat. Works very well for me. I "think" some guys use a big piece of glass to cut on.

Status: offline 		The way around dull blades is to use old-style razor-blades such as "Gillette". They stay sharp longer than #11 blades. Wrap tape around one half of the blade and you have a secure grip without cutting yourself. When dull use the other half. Works for me.

Couple pages back someone asked why this thread keeps coming back. I was clear back on page one post 26 now here's the real deal. Termagator blew me away with his flag, then with the soap wrappers and now 20 months later I get the KICK IN THE PANTS. Here's the hard part so pay attention, look at what all of the other people have done with the inspiration that termagator has given them. Granted many went the flag route, but what the heck they saw something very,very coooooooool!! and they tried it themselves in a varitey of ways and I personally would be proud of any and all I've seen. Hopefully we all learn from each other, look at the planes we fly, look at the mod's we make. I might be mistaken but, I thought the idea was a hobby where we all shared our knowledge. That's why this thread keeps coming back, people are learning, and trying new stuff and it's very very cool.

Termagator thanks for the inspiration and sharing

All of you other folks Keep Post those Pic's Awsome stuff.

I am in to spads.For those who dont know:thats an airplanes built from corrugated plastic ,the kind that political signs are made out of.So it comes naturally wite.So the best 'coloring' is done by vinyl bu question is:is it possible to do the same 3d flag using non transparent vinyl instead of monokote ?

Status: offline 		I'm Just guessing guy's but if I remember right when you go about glueing any seams or joints with the coroplast you have a shiny surface that you have to sand, or rough up think I even remember something about running a flame over the surface to get rid of the shine so the glue will hold. My guess would be that you might want to knock the shine off with some 400 or 600 grit sand paper. Maybe someone with experiece with coro will help us out. Hmmmm! might have to do a little dumpster diving for a piece of coroplast and do a little experimenting this weekend got plenty of monokote scraps.

I never built one, yet, plan to. But I did order the material, and it does come in some other colors than white. Go to http://www.spadtothebone.com/ then click on links, then click on Spad Supplies. Hope this helps!

Status: offline 		Covering will not stick to coroplast. Vinyl is the way to go, and yes, you can get translucent vinyl, but it is pricey. You can use the windex method with vinyl on coroplast.

Although not '3-D', this checker flag was all hand cut (vinyl) and applied using the 'windex' method. Took a while, but the results speak for themselves! "Lucky" is a 25 pound, 8 foot wingspan coroplast behemoth powered by a Quadra 35cc. I was inspired to try something different as a result of this thread. The 3-D american flag is going on my Byron CAP 21, that is being finished this winter.

You are the MASTER! This is such a cool technique that even I, who has never picked up a roll of Monokote in his life (and since the advent of ARF's, never thought I'd HAVE to!), am prepared to try it! My question (and remember, I have ZERO experience with this stuff) is, what's the deal with Monokote (and similar) coverings? I thought the adhesive was only activated by heat. You talk about using Windex though (or small amounts of dish soap in water), and the way you describe it, this somehow activates the adhesive on the back of the Monokote in a similar fashion? I've heard of using this technique on decals, but I want to be sure the same principle applies. I have a perfect ARF to try this on (World Models Mach IIS with the new design...has a blank white wing bottom that just BEGS for this sort of design!), and I have all but the transparent red monokote (should find some at alternative LHS this weekend). Can't wait to get started! Thanks for sharing your tips with all of us lesser mortals!
