It was a great thread for sure and Gator is probably the best there is in my book. Man you guys ought to see some of the stuff he is doing over where he regularly posts now. Truely ARTWORK. The guy is a freakin genius! If I'm not mistaken though, those pictures were given to 3D flyer by the author of the original though............could be wrong.

Here is my stab at it. I wanted to do something different with my Hobbistar 60. The original striping was coming off and it just needed a general jazzing up. This was my first try at covering a plane as well. It was different that I had to stretch the covering over the ends since it is rounded and not squared off like you guys' planes. The first shot is a before.

Hey gator, i have laser cutter, i have had it for about a month, and for the heck of it put some monocote in there and WOW! it cut it like nobody's business! I have an 18x24 cutting area and can actually set the laser to cut through the monocote AND NOT THE BACKING! its like a non sticky pressure sensitive label! Anything you can make in corel draw you can cut out of monocote, imagine! anyway just an FYI.

Are you guys getting more than a couple of months worth of flying before the fuel begins to lift the points of the stars? (using the trim solvent to seal all edges, on monokote) Sorry if I missed it, long thread! But DOES trim solvent work a lot better than acetone? Also.... does trim solvent/acetone? work at all on Ultracoat?

Thanks,

Ernie

Ernie,
I found using a trim iron to seal down the edges works best for me.

I'm confused.....the stars are cut out of the blue covering aren't they? how do they start lifting up?

Snarlacles: the stars are actually cut out of white monokote then stuck on over the blue.

Actually the way I cut them out was my wife had a "star" cookie cutter that I used to trace them, and that worked really well...since I can't even draw a straight line with a ruler

RCFURY- I guess you could do it either way...since I took the blue stars that were cut out and put them on the bottom of the wing for some contrast, I don't think it matters too much, just whatever works better for each person.
