Sorry to resurrect an old post, but I was so impressed with the master gator's handiwork, that I had to give it a try. After an untimely accident that required a new wing kit and rebuild on my venture 60, I had a clean slate to work with and test this thing. It is no pro job but will pass the 6' test.

Thanks gator for the thread, as since I have no artistic talent at all, I would never have thought of taking something like this on!

Thanks Paul ...

I did have some trouble with the 'windex' treatment. The venture's wings are not sheeted, so there are 'sags' between the wing ribs. I had real difficulties getting the trim to mold to these irregular shapes. I ended up having to use low heat to get things to finally stay down good. I was wondering if you guys have any tips or tricks on geting good adhesion over irregular surfaces using the windex method?

Also, I used Profilm for a base covering, and solarfilm for the trim. No monokote and ultracoat over here. I did several tests on scrap pieces until I found a good combination of covering materials.

Thanks again for the great help .... Bo

Man, after reading at pages of this stuff I'm thinking about doing one on my OMP 540FF. I've been inspired by gator. Thanks for sharing the info.

Ahhh yes, I could see it now. A whole new breed; ART (almost ready to trim). And the evolution continues.....

Hideho all,
Well I am ready to do the flag on my Funtana.
Just so I'm clear, when you use the windex with mono over ultra, no other solvent is needed around the edges of the stars?
Just iron down the hard edges, the TE and LE with an iron and leave the edges of the stars down only with windex?
Does the windex activate the adhesive of the mono?

Thanks,
Mike

Mike,
after leaving to dry completely overnight, tack the edges down with a iron where you have a flat and hard surface (sheeted area), and over open areas use a little monokote trim solvent applied with a Q-tip around edges. This will prevent from pealing later. Works great, and does not come off.

Termigator, you inspired me. What do you do when the wing graphics base color starts to wrinkle after you applied other graphics.
?
I believe this happened when applying pressure to the stripes of white that I put on.

nice job on you plane
if you got some wrinkles on the base covering, try the heat gun, but be very carefull. It may try to blister some of the trim covering on top. do it slowy and work in a small area, preferably where its not seem , like of the bottom of the wing...

Plane looks GREAT.....Gator
