My Demon has no landing skids with a fully sheeted airframe like yours. My field is prime cut grass and I have had no problems with damage to underside. I have even come in hot a couple times and skipped it like a stone with absolutely no damage. Did you use a balsa prep ( i.e. balsarite ) before covering? I also use clear HD Scotch tape along the LE where the covering overlaps to prevent it from coming loose at high speeds. Speedy

I used clear scotch tape on the leading edges and any overlapping areas.

Oh I forgot; my landing area is either the 320 feet asphalt runway or un-treated short weeds on the runway sides

there is no smooth grass area..

liquid_TR, Sounds like you are SOL. I'll take grass over asphalt any day. Only should I get into jets would I prefer asphalt but I will never go jet. We do see eye to eye on the clear tape thing though. This is one necessity that many do not know of and that is why we give our 2 cents worth of advise to these forums. Clear tape on ALL overlapping leading edges. (wings, stabilizers, rudders, etc.) Best to apply before first flights but if model has been flown clean the surfaces to be taped with clean laquer thinner. Do not use rubbing alcohol. Rubbing alcohol will still leave a greasy film and the tape will not adhere well. May the "Gravity Gods" be kind to you! Speedy

Why not just add some plywood skids to the bottom of the plane; one near the nose and two out by the tips. If you land on asphalt then you don't have to worry about rocks and grass damaging your covering.

For skids, use whatever that stuff is that the low riders use to send out a shower of sparks.

yer wassup Denny, amazing how quickly the bin fills with modeling waste! To bad you got rain there. It can't rain forever sun soon i hope.

Had a great weekend with a saito82 in my spitfire, nice sound.
I'm just putting together a mini tiger shark delta, 29" wingspan with a hot weston/webra 36V1. Should get 22500 on the 8x6.
It's small allready but going to get even smaller airborne.

heres my pink sunburst and part complete model so far

Thanks for the suggestion Troy, thats probably how Im gona do it.. I was thinking to put some kind of wooden or plastic bearer directly under the main ribs.

ofcourse not forgetting to put some flint stone around the edges for a spark show for combatpigg

Got a few more flights in this weekend and getting the motor dialed in more. I'm up to 20,400RPM on 7.5X8 Q40 prop on 15% still. Motor finally sounds like it's connecting on the pipe but may be just shy of actually being tuned still. What a blast to fly. Easy to launch, grooves well, and can only get faster from here. I'm still eyeing the draggy cylinder head and pipe sticking out in the wind...

Your first video was impressive before you tweaked it a bit.
I bet it was a lot hotter with the 20k plus spin.
If you clean it up as well, I bet it will get real interesting...

as long as you have the "C" rating to cover the ampl you intend to pull you will be fine.. @60 amps you will need 40c packs!

I have been playing on moto calc a bit and it helps a lot
http://www.motocalc.com/

what speed control do you have? is it up to 6c? to get about the same wattage ~630 on 6s requires a 7" prop

but you could spin that 7.5 x 8 pylon prop mentioned above at 18K rpm on the ground, but throttle management will be absolutely necessary or you'll cook that motor.. allow for good cooling, and keep full power blasts short.

I went through all this too in growing pains. with an 1130 KV motor, you can run a 6 cell lipo and turn a 7x6 graupner CAM prop and get over 100 mph with it.

Sorry guys its just taking me longer than planned on mine. Its almost ready to cover. Its a medusa 2500 kv on 6A123's, so it runs the equivalent voltage of 4 and 1/2 cells. I have run this setup already and it turns close to 30K on a 6x5.5 apc. If that isn't enough umph, then I will transfer the 1600kv, 8S 123 system over. It was pushing the little bobcat well over 100mph, and thats twice the weight and alot more drag.

I have gotten the best speed performance from the little graupner black speed CAM props. You have to let the electric unwind too, so its a very fine balance to find enough thrust and not lose too much speed. I got more speed from the 7x6 than I did the 8x6, it wasnt as peppy, but it was faster.

You actually will get better performance from an Inrunner on this setup. Thats alot of mass turning up front.

If all you could stuff into it was a 3S4000 battery, then you will need a medusa 2500 KV, with a 8x6 but it will get HOT due to the amperage/wattage. with your current setup, go get some 2000mah 25c cells and build two three packs for 6S. You will get about 6 min flight. That will take care of the amperage problem. Remember, at the high wattage, you have to get cooling air to the battery and controller. I cut a hole in the firewall and a big exit in the back, and cut down the bulkheads for airflow.

It launched from my friends hand like a friggin harpoon missle! awesome!

I cant even imagine it with a jett 60LX.. awesome..!

Glad you had a good maiden. The TT 46 has more then enough power but the 60LX will be the ultimate.
